The crowds mean the world and they bring so much energy,” Morikawa admitted.

“So like when I’m making the turn, when you’re on 9, even early on when you’re on 2, 3, 4, they were there, and it just pushes me a little bit more to want to play well and to make a few more birdies, and when you make those putts for birdie, like after I made bogey on 15, you go to 16, make birdie, like it brings the energy and hopefully we can bring that into tomorrow.”

Morikawa needs a fast start to catch the brilliant Potgieter

Morikawa is playing well and it’s good to see he’s got the fans onside and is actually recognising that as well.

However, he is going to need his very best game and a bit of luck if he’s to chase down the brilliant Aldrich Potgieter at the top of that leaderboard.

The 20-year-old looks firmly in control and while mistakes could creep in, he’s also capable of pulling away if he starts well.

Morikawa will need to make some early birdies to put the pressure on before Potgieter goes out. If he can do that, then he might just have enough in the tank to reel the South African in.

[47
10132,1430,13720,62,67,132,68
0":"post-25332","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-golf","8":"tag-collin-morikawa","9":"tag-golf","10":"tag-rocket-classic","11":"tag-sports","12":"tag-united-states","13":"tag-unitedstates","14":"tag-us
["GET
