Houston is in for some long-awaited relief from the recent heat and humidity. <\/b><\/p>\n
Dry air is expected to begin filtering in on Thursday, but the real cooldown won\u2019t be felt until Friday morning.<\/p>\n
Thursday Forecast:<\/b><\/p>\n
This transition is different than the fast-moving fall and winter fronts that bring instant cool downs. This time, changes will happen gradually \u2014 you may not notice much difference during your Thursday morning commute, with temperatures staying in the low 70s and humidity levels still feeling muggy.<\/p>\n

Before the cooler weather arrives, keep an umbrella handy. Yanez says storms and showers are expected Thursday morning, mainly south of I-10, especially near the coast. Those heading out early around Lake Jackson or Galveston may encounter heavy rain and a few thunderstorms.<\/p>\n

The rain chance drops off by midday as clouds break up and drier air begins to move in. Even so, it will still be warm on Thursday with highs around 88 degrees. <\/p>\n
Don\u2019t expect a dramatic cooldown \u2014 the process is slower this time around, with only gradual temperature drops as the weekend approaches.<\/p>\n

Whenever a strong front pushes through, the temperature drops quickly, but this is a weaker front, and the dry air is moving in slowly. Meaning it\u2019s going to take a couple of days to feel the cooler air. So, what does this mean now that the front has passed? It might not be chilly enough to dig out your Ugg boots, but that doesn\u2019t mean you can\u2019t sip your PSL while walking the kids to school or hitting the park in the mornings over the next couple of days.<\/p>\n

Powerful Hurricane Gabrielle is headed out into the north Atlantic. The storm brought some likely storm damage to the island of Bermuda but that will be the only interaction with land as it heads back out into the north Atlantic. <\/p>\n
Here\u2019s what we are watching and tracking in the tropics:<\/p>\n
Tropical Storm Humberto is about 550 miles east-northeast of the Northen Leeward islands with 40 mph. <\/p>\n
We\u2019re also watching showers and thunderstorms organize with a tropical wave near Puerto Rico. A tropical depression is likely to form near the Bahamas late this week. We\u2019ll keep an eye on areas like Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Turks and Calicos Islands as well.<\/p>\n
