West underwent surgery on Tuesday on his thumb. There is still a chance he could play Sunday against the Jaguars at Levi\u2019s Stadium.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsportsbayarea.com\/nfl\/san-francisco-49ers\/ricky-pearsall-receiving-yards\/1876822\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">49ers receiver Ricky Pearsall shares how he has taken his game to the next level<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\u201d\u201cI was feeling sore, but it\u2019s just a precaution thing,\u201d Pearsall said. \u201cIf there was a game today, I\u2019d definitely play.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Pearsall said he has no doubt he will be available for the 49ers\u2019 Week 4 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday at Levi\u2019s Stadium\u2026.I\u2019m more comfortable with the offense,\u201d Pearsall said. \u201cObviously, the whole offseason, you\u2019re physically getting ready. But I think just knowing the offense a little bit better is making me play just that much faster.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">\u201cYou can be physically gifted all you want and be grinding in the offseason, but if you don\u2019t mentally know everything about the playbook, you\u2019re going to go out there and play slow\u201d\u2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">As a young receiver, Pearsall said he always tries to guard against doing too much thinking. After all, if he does not believe the pass is going to be going his way, there is always the temptation to let off the throttle just a little.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">\u201cIf you know the coverage, and you know the route you\u2019re running and it\u2019s not good for that coverage, then you might run the route completely different, which you shouldn\u2019t do,\u201d he said. \u201cYou should still run the route full speed, like you\u2019re getting the ball every single time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">\u201cI\u2019ll still catch myself sometimes, because I\u2019ll figure out what the coverage is and it might not be the right route for the coverage. So I just tell myself, it\u2019s coming my way, regardless. I always expect to get the ball, but that\u2019s just how you\u2019re supposed to play as a receiver.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6656053\/2025\/09\/24\/49ers-nick-bosa-trade-targets\/?source=emp_shared_article\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Are Trey Hendrickson, Bradley Chubb realistic 49ers trade targets? Mailbag<\/strong> <strong>(paywall)<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\u201cThat said, having two operations on the same knee \u2014 what orthopedists call \u201crevisions\u201d \u2014 makes things more complicated, according to Bay Area surgeon Dan Solomon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">He said the first worry is the \u201ctunnels\u201d that are drilled through the bone as anchor points. Presumably, the optimal site for that tunnel was already used in the original surgery. If so, the challenge would be finding another area sturdy enough to handle the forces placed onto it by a 265-pound man with tree trunks for thighs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">The second concern is the graft \u2014 a surgeon can\u2019t harvest a graft from the same site on the body that was used before. Solomon said it\u2019s possible Bosa caught a break in that regard. Ten years ago, doctors tended to use patellar tendon grafts. These days, quadriceps tendons are becoming more common.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Obviously, the key lies with how Bosa\u2019s 2015 injury \u2014 described in contemporary news stories as a \u201cpartial\u201d tear that required surgery \u2014 was handled.\u201c<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfchronicle.com\/sports\/49ers\/article\/yes-49ers-trade-pass-rusher-big-swing-21065187.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Yes, 49ers will trade for a pass rusher. Question is, how big will they swing? (paywall)<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\u201cThis makes no sense. Right? From the 49ers\u2019 perspective, Thibodeaux, 24, the No. 5 pick in 2022 with 22.5 sacks in 46 games, wouldn\u2019t come cheap. He likely would command at least a second-round pick, and then there is the matter of money: He has a $9.9 million cap charge in 2025 (it would be prorated if he\u2019s traded) and is on the books for $14.75 million in 2026 on his fifth-year option, which he\u2019d certainly want to rip up for a mega contract extension. New York also employs two other gifted edge rushers, Brian Burns and Abdul Carter, both of whom are under contract through 2028, and they could address one of their many roster needs by dealing Thibodeaux.\u201c<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6657246\/2025\/09\/24\/eddy-pineiro-49ers-kicker-cardinals-winner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Have the 49ers found their kicker? The results of that reduction is scheduled to be announced in mid-October.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">The full 50-person Hall of Fame Selection Committee will vote to further reduce the list to 25 semifinalists later in the fall.
