{"id":25367,"date":"2025-06-29T20:35:17","date_gmt":"2025-06-29T20:35:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/25367\/"},"modified":"2025-06-29T20:35:17","modified_gmt":"2025-06-29T20:35:17","slug":"black-spitting-cobra-spotted-coiling-on-tree-next-to-path-gives-warning-displays-at-windsor-nature-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/25367\/","title":{"rendered":"Black spitting cobra spotted coiling on tree next to path, gives warning displays at Windsor Nature Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Spitting cobra seen on tree at Windsor Nature Park making warning displays, worker warns passing joggers<\/p>\n<p>Joggers at Windsor Nature Park had an unknowing brush with danger when a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/179531089457\/posts\/10163469918284458\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">spitting cobra was spotted coiled around a tree<\/a>, rearing its head and flaring its hood in warning as people passed by, completely unaware of the venomous reptile mere steps away.<\/p>\n<p>55-year-old cook and wildlife photographer Joanne Toh encountered the reptile peeking out from around a tree at 10.25am on 28 June.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-629680\" class=\"wp-image-629680 size-full lazyload\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/spitting-cobra-6.jpg\" alt=\"spitting cobra tree\" width=\"1464\" height=\"2048\"  data- style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1464px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1464\/2048;\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-629680\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: Joanne Toh on Facebook<\/p>\n<p>Ms Toh told\u00a0MS News\u00a0that she was on her way to photograph a blue-rumped parrot at the time.<\/p>\n<p>She then noticed a cleaner at Windsor Nature Park standing with a hiker near the tree on the Venus Loop trail.<\/p>\n<p>She quickly realised the source of concern: a venomous snake had taken up a defensive position right next to the path.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Toh managed to photograph the black spitting cobra, also known as the equatorial spitting cobra, from a safe distance.<\/p>\n<p>It was coiled around a tree next to the Venus Loop path with its head reared up and hood open.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-629672\" class=\"wp-image-629672 size-full lazyload\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/spitting-cobra-1.jpg\" alt=\"spitting cobra tree\" width=\"826\" height=\"1101\"  data- style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 826px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 826\/1101;\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-629672\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: Joanne Toh on Facebook<\/p>\n<p>According to NParks, the cobra will raise the front part of its body, flatten its neck, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nparks.gov.sg\/florafaunaweb\/fauna\/4\/8\/480\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">hiss loudly if threatened<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Should the warning display fail, it would then spray venom towards the eyes of the provoker at distances of over one metre.<\/p>\n<p>Worker warns passing hikers of nearby cobra<\/p>\n<p>Ms Toh explained that the spitting cobra had gotten too close to the path. He <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/179531089457\/posts\/10163469918284458\/?comment_id=10163470943064458\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">waited close by and warned others about the snake<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-629675\" class=\"size-full wp-image-629675 lazyload\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/spitting-cobra-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1536\" height=\"2040\"  data- style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1536px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1536\/2040;\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-629675\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: Joanne Toh on Facebook<\/p>\n<p>After around 20 minutes, the snake came down from the tree by itself and slithered off before the worker\u2019s superiors arrived.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m a snake lover, of course, I feel very excited,\u201d Ms Toh said about the encounter.
