\n\tYara Shahidi<\/a> will star opposite Jason Statham<\/a> in \u201cThe Beekeeper<\/a> 2,\u201d the forthcoming sequel<\/a> to Miramax\u2019s hit action movie.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe Beekeeper 2,\u201d distributed worldwide by Amazon MGM Studios and produced and financed by Miramax, is expected to start production this fall, with Jeremy Irons also returning. Details of Shahidi\u2019s role are being kept under wraps.<\/p>\n

\n\tTimo Tjahjanto, who recently helmed \u201cNobody 2\u201d for Universal, following a string of massive Indonesian hits (\u201cThe Shadow Strays,\u201d \u201cThe Night Comes for Us\u201d and \u201cThe Big Four\u201d) on Netflix, directs from a script by Kurt Wimmer, who penned the first film. Statham also returns to produce the sequel through his Punch Palace Productions shingle, alongside Chris Long (via Longshot Productions) and Wimmer.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn \u201cThe Beekeeper,\u201d Statham stars as Adam Clay, a retired government assassin (a former \u201cBeekeeper\u201d operative turned actual honeycomb minder), who sets off on a quest for vengeance when his kindhearted landlady (Phylicia Rashad) is maliciously targeted in a phishing attack. The action-conspiracy thriller, directed by David Ayer, was a buzzy box office hit and ultimately grossed $162 million worldwide.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn an interview ahead of the first film\u2019s release, Statham teased the possibility of a sequel<\/a>. \u201cThe whole movie escalates in terms of the action. And it goes through an incredible, great crescendo,\u201d he told Variety. \u201cThe whole world [of the film] has a mythology of the \u2018beekeeping\u2019 world. If we were fortunate enough to make a sequel, we have a whole world that we can dive into.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tShahidi is best known from her breakout role in the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning ABC series \u201cBlack-ish,\u201d and as the star and executive producer of its long-running spinoff series<\/a>, Freeform\u2019s \u201cGrown-ish.\u201d She also executive produced and starred in Amazon MGM\u2019s coming-of-age film, \u201cSitting in Bars With Cake,\u201d and will next star in Catherine Hardwicke\u2019s indie drama \u201cStreet Smart.\u201d<\/a> Shahidi continues to create and produce film and TV projects<\/a> under her banner, 7th Sun Productions, alongside her business partner and mother, Keri Salter-Shahidi.
