{"id":254622,"date":"2025-09-25T22:15:25","date_gmt":"2025-09-25T22:15:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/254622\/"},"modified":"2025-09-25T22:15:25","modified_gmt":"2025-09-25T22:15:25","slug":"of-studio-designs-mountain-house-that-emerges-from-the-terrain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/254622\/","title":{"rendered":"OF Studio designs mountain house that &#8220;emerges from the terrain&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>International architecture practice OF Studio has created a brutalist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/concrete-houses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">concrete house<\/a> with a cantilevered terrace and sloped foundations shaped by its site on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/mountains\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mountainside<\/a> in Mendoza, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/argentina\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Argentina<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Completed in 2024, the 571-square metre (6,146-square-foot) house known as Brutal Honesty took six years to construct on the edge of a canyon.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2251386 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/brutal-honesty-of-studio-argentina-mountain-house_dezeen_2364_col_2-852x479.jpg\" alt=\"Brutal Honesty by OF Studio\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1328\"  \/>Brutal Honesty took six years to construct on the edge of a canyon<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ofstudio.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">OF Studio<\/a>, co-founded in London in 2017 by Argentinian architects Valentina Cerrone and Sebasti\u00e1n Andia, was informed by the raw presence, texture, and silence of the mountain itself.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The house emerges naturally from the terrain, shaping a landscape that coexists with its surroundings,&#8221; Andia told Dezeen. &#8220;We worked with material honesty, tectonics, and integrated sustainability, letting the architecture grow from the site itself.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2251388 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/brutal-honesty-of-studio-argentina-mountain-house_dezeen_2364_col_24-852x1278.jpg\" alt=\"House emerging from the terrain\" width=\"1576\" height=\"2364\"  \/>OF Studio designed the mountain house to look as if it is emerging &#8220;from the terrain\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The house rises from the terrain on earth-coloured retaining walls &#8220;like abstract rock formations,&#8221; the studio explained, noting that the contours of the land drove the organisation of internal partitions and three main terraces.<\/p>\n<p>The splaying walls define the tapering massing while shielding the house from the southern exposure of the canyon.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The structure seems to emerge from the hill, yet asserts a new identity,&#8221; the team explained, calling it &#8220;of abstract nature&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>With a 360-degree view of the Andean desert mountains, the house is separated into three stacked stages: a basement inside the earth, a partially embedded ground floor and an upper level that rises out of the earth.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2251389 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/brutal-honesty-of-studio-argentina-mountain-house_dezeen_2364_col_5-852x479.jpg\" alt=\"Curved concrete house by OF Studio\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1328\"  \/>The home is separated into three stacked stages<\/p>\n<p>The kitchen sits at the heart of the home, branching off into communal spaces that stretch outwards in rounded-off angles.<\/p>\n<p>Terraces extend off either side of the living and dining rooms, while a terrace off the playroom provides an outdoor zone for children.
