{"id":254858,"date":"2025-09-26T00:24:12","date_gmt":"2025-09-26T00:24:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/254858\/"},"modified":"2025-09-26T00:24:12","modified_gmt":"2025-09-26T00:24:12","slug":"nyc-mayor-eric-adams-has-ripped-bathroom-gender-policies-but-school-boss-claims-theyre-here-to-stay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/254858\/","title":{"rendered":"NYC Mayor Eric Adams has ripped bathroom gender policies \u2013 but school boss claims they&#8217;re here to stay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/25\/us-news\/eric-adams-whines-about-cash-strapped-campaign-biased-media-as-nyc-mayoral-election-looms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mayor Eric Adams<\/a> has been railing against policies that allow transgender students to use bathrooms aligned with their gender identities \u2014 but his own schools chancellor said nothing\u2019s going to change.<\/p>\n<p>Education Chancellor <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/03\/13\/opinion\/chancellor-melissa-aviles-ramos-has-some-nerve-seeking-yet-more-cash-for-nyc-schools-with-a-budget-already-exceeding-41b\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Melissa Aviles-Ramos<\/a> stood by the gender policy in an interview on the Max Politics podcast, despite Hizzoner\u2019s recent rhetoric on the issue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo date, those policies remain in place and we\u2019re going to continue to uphold them as part of our values in New York City public schools,\u201d Aviles-Ramos said.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.28805031;display:block\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"37215959\" width=\"760\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/092525-showing-nyc-mayor-eric-112109504.jpg\" alt=\"NYC Mayor Eric Adams announcing plans for affordable housing.\" class=\"wp-image-37215959\"  \/>Despite Mayor Eric Adams\u2019 latest agenda of criticizing the current rules in place that allow transgender students to use bathrooms aligned with their gender identities, those policies will remain in effect. Brigitte Stelzer<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Adams unleashed several tirades against  bathroom policies in recent days, saying he wouldn\u2019t \u201csuccumb\u201d to letting girls and boys share the same facilities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not quite sure why people think it\u2019s all right for a young man in high school to go into a shower where young girls are,\u201d Adams told reporters at one event. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean, that just doesn\u2019t make any sense to me. It\u2019s not safe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The city Department of Education requires that students \u201cmust\u201d be provided access to bathrooms and other facilities, \u201cconsistent with their gender identity asserted at school.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>While Aviles-Ramos said that the policy is acting in accordance with state law, the mayor has said he is reviewing whether he has authority to change the policy.<\/p>\n<p>The mayor\u2019s newfound crusade comes amidst US Education Department <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/17\/us-news\/trump-admin-threatens-to-withhold-millions-in-funding-for-magnet-school-programs-in-nyc-chicago-and-northern-virginia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">warning the city schools <\/a>about its transgender inclusion policies, claiming that it could amount to a violation of other students\u2019 rights and result in the feds withholding millions in funding to the city.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"37215960\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/109776175-1.jpg\" alt=\"Gender-neutral restroom sign that says, &quot;INCLUSIVE&quot;\" class=\"wp-image-37215960\"  \/>Education Chancellor Melissa Aviles-Ramos appeared on the Max Politics podcast to confirm the gender policy will remain in place while also stating that she supports the current system in place across public schools in the Big Apple.
