Manchester United\u2019s wait for a midfielder could see the club pounce on a stop-gap solution.<\/strong><\/p>\n

There is no doubt that Manchester United did some impressive summer transfer business<\/a>, but one of the main stories from the window was about the position Ineos failed to address<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Manchester United could strike an \u2018opportunistic\u2019 deal in the January transfer window if the right option presents itself, claims Ben Jacobs.<\/p>\n

Jacobs tells The United Stand that former Wolves star Ruben Neves<\/a> could be keen on a return to the Premier League.<\/p>\n

Neves signed for Al-Hilal for \u00a347 million in 2024, and it is suggested that he could be eyeing a return to England to bolster his World Cup chances with Portugal.<\/p>\n

Jacobs explains: \u201cKeep an eye on opportunistic signings, six months out from a World Cup, that want to make a step up or, in some places, return back. <\/p>\n

\u201cRuben Neves, for example, is one to watch; he\u2019s a little bit older, so it would be more short term. <\/p>\n

\u201cI think there\u2019s concrete possibility that Neves will leave Al Hilal.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ruben Neves is still only 28, and could have plenty to offer Manchester United in the short-term, whether it was a loan move or a permanent transfer.<\/p>\n

Neves has 60 caps for Portugal and is still in their plans, but a move back to England could shore up his World Cup spot, and even elevate him into a regular starting berth if he can demonstrate his fit alongside Bruno Fernandes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Neves has 177 appearances in the Premier League and has caused Manchester United problems during his time with Wolves, with a penchant for a long-range screamer. He has been linked with the Red Devils in the past<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He played alongside Matheus Cunha<\/a> at Wolves for a short time, and with Fernandes and Diogo Dalot<\/a>, Neves could settle quickly into the squad. <\/p>\n
