{"id":255247,"date":"2025-09-26T04:04:15","date_gmt":"2025-09-26T04:04:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/255247\/"},"modified":"2025-09-26T04:04:15","modified_gmt":"2025-09-26T04:04:15","slug":"inspection-finds-roaches-on-walls-employees-had-unwashed-hands-at-san-antonio-restaurant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/255247\/","title":{"rendered":"Inspection finds roaches on walls, employees had unwashed hands at San Antonio restaurant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><strong>SAN ANTONIO<\/strong> \u2013 Roaches were found crawling along the walls and employees were not washing their hands when inspectors visited a Mexican restaurant last month, according to a Metro Health inspection. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 kNAFkD cuqaEv article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/topic\/Behind_The_Kitchen_Door\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Behind the Kitchen Door<\/a> is a series where KSAT investigates health inspections of restaurants in San Antonio. <\/p>\n<p>Taqueria El Charro De Jalisco #5 <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">When inspectors stopped by the Mexican restaurant at 1431 Pleasanton Road in August, they found several serious health code issues. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Employees at Taqueria El Charro De Jalisco #5 did not want to talk about any of the 18 violations. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Among the other issues noted in the Aug. 26 report: <\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p>Chemicals stored next to food<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p>Uncovered container of tortilla chips stored near the floor<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p>Food did not have prep dates marked<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p>Uncovered sugar and spices next to dish soap<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">KSAT attempted to speak with a restaurant employee, who did not want to be on camera. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cWill you answer the questions?\u201d KSAT asked. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cNot right now,\u201d the employee responded. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">After KSAT walked out of the restaurant, another employee, who identified himself as Carlos, confronted them. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">KSAT again attempted to get answers regarding the restaurant\u2019s health code violations. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Carlos said that all the issues noted in the inspection had been fixed. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">He defended its 79 score, saying that if the issues were really bad, health inspectors would have shut the restaurant down. <\/p>\n<p>Sonic Drive-In<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Health inspectors issued 11 demerits when they visited the fast-food restaurant at 4318 Vance Jackson Road on Aug. 25. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The Sonic Drive-In location earned an 84 after inspectors noted the employees handling food did not have the certification to do so. There was also no certified food manager present, which health rules indicate is required while the restaurant is open. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cEveryone is certified to hand food here in the location,\u201d a supervisor told KSAT. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">KSAT asked about an issue inspectors noted with the walk-in cooler, which was nearly 10 degrees warmer than it should have been. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cThings like cheese and milk were thrown away,\u201d KSAT told the supervisor. \u201cPeople come here all the time to get milkshakes. Is this a safe place to get milkshakes?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cOf course it\u2019s safe,\u201d the supervisor said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Here are some other violations inspectors found:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p>Grease and grime accumulated on the wheels of the fryer<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p>Food debris in compartments of the cold hold unit<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p>Soiled plumbing fixtures under the ice machine<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p>No food handler certifications on-site<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Other scores from the week of Aug. 24 through Aug. 30:<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 kNAFkD cuqaEv article-text\">Brevity Coffee Co. &#8211;
