\n\tScarlett Johansson<\/a> is opening up about how roles have changed for women since she joined Hollywood.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a recent interview with The Times of London<\/a>, Johansson said that when she first entered the industry, the roles she was offered usually centered around \u201cdesirability,\u201d and the goals and needs of her male counterparts. However, she thinks the Hollywood of today is ushering in \u201ca different time for young women.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe messaging is different \u2014 there are many more role models, women are visible in powerful positions and the opportunities I have had to play women who don\u2019t have to just be one thing or another have increased,\u201d Johansson said. \u201cBut when I was younger, a lot of the roles I was offered, or I went for, had their ambitions or character arcs revolving around their own desirability, or the male gaze, or a male-centred story. That is less frequent, though \u2014 something has shifted.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThis isn\u2019t the first time Johansson spoke out about her representation in Hollywood. Back in 2022, the \u201cAvengers\u201d star said she was so \u201chypersexualized\u201d by the industry at a young age, that she thought it would be impossible to branch out to different types of roles.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI kind of became objectified and pigeonholed in this way where I felt like I wasn\u2019t getting offers for work for things that I wanted to do,\u201d Johansson said<\/a>. \u201cI remember thinking to myself, \u2018I think people think I\u2019m 40 years old.\u2019 It somehow stopped being something that was desirable and something that I was fighting against.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Scarlett Johansson is opening up about how roles have changed for women since she joined Hollywood.
