At a September 25 awards ceremony in Las Vegas, all three critically acclaimed L.A. restaurants were the awarded spots on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theworlds50best.com\/northamerica\/en\/list\/1-50\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">inaugural edition<\/a> of North America\u2019s 50 Best Restaurants list\u2014a brand-new regional offshoot of World\u2019s 50 Best Restaurants. They\u2019re also,\u00a0according to us over here at\u00a0Time Out,\u00a0some of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/los-angeles\/restaurants\/best-restaurants-in-los-angeles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">best restaurants in Los Angeles<\/a>,\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After being awarded the Resy One to Watch award by the World\u2019s 50 Best organization <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/los-angeles\/news\/this-arts-district-restaurant-was-just-named-as-one-to-watch-by-the-worlds-50-best-restaurants-050824\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">last year<\/a>, Kato was ranked the 26th best restaurant in North America\u2014the highest ranked restaurant in L.A. and all of Southern California. Chef Jon Yao\u2019s\u00a0Taiwanese fine dining restaurant in the Arts District also possesses a Michelin star and, if you\u2019re asking me, one of the best cocktail programs in Los Angeles, courtesy of bar director Austin Hennelly. The critically acclaimed tasting menu spot has also been named the No. 1 best restaurant in L.A. on the Los Angeles Times\u2019\u00a0101 Best Restaurants list for the last two years in a row.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"95efafa8-4d11-9c81-fa6e-bef6433730f6\" class=\"photo lazy inline\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"lazy-embed\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/1758869890_736_image.webp.webp\" alt=\"Kato Dining Room\" data-caption=\"Kato\" data-credit=\"Photograph: Courtesy Jeni Afuso\" data-width-class=\"\" data-image-id=\"105905889\"\/>&#13;<br \/>\nPhotograph: Courtesy Jeni AfusoKato&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Per the awarding body behind North America\u2019s 50 Best Restaurants, the eatery offers \u201crefreshingly original Taiwanese American fare with [an] elevated drinks offering.\u201d The listing also describes Kato\u2019s dishes as \u201csome of the finest and most individual plates in North America\u201d and praises Yao\u2019s modern interpretations of beef noodle soup and stir-fried basil and clams. The judges also recognized sommelier and co-owner Ryan Bailey\u2019s outstanding wine program, which includes a Kato-exclusive\u00a0savagnin bottle in partnership with Sonoma\u2019s Cole Ranch.<\/p>\n<p>South L.A.\u2019s Holbox, which also earned a Michelin star for the first time last year, came in at No. 42. The North America\u2019s 50 Best judges describe Gilberto Cetina Jr.\u2019s Yucatecan-style mariscos counter as \u201ccertifiably fresh Mexican seafood served in a flourishing market.\u201d The listing also waxes poetic about the scallops \u201cbuoyed in tangy, house-made coctele sauce\u201d and Cetina\u2019s in-house dry-aged fish process, meticulous sourcing and head-to-tail approach to cooking. Also shouted out are the\u00a0heirloom corn tortillas sourced from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/los-angeles\/restaurants\/komal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Komal,<\/a> a Michelin-recognized masa-centric concept also housed within community-minded Mercado La Paloma. The restaurant and molino is run by two former Holbox employees, Fatima Juarez and Conrado Rivera.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"fd3a78b7-3a80-e9d8-b93a-66af8e2f29c8\" class=\"photo lazy inline\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"lazy-embed\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/1758869892_698_image.webp.webp\" alt=\"Holbox tostada\" data-caption=\"An uni-topped kanpachi tostada from Holbox.\" data-credit=\"Photograph: Courtesy Wonho Frank Lee\" data-width-class=\"\" data-image-id=\"106323664\"\/>&#13;<br \/>\nPhotograph: Courtesy Wonho Frank LeeAn uni-topped kanpachi tostada from Holbox.&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy team and I are incredibly grateful for the continued recognition of our commitment to excellence in both food and hospitality, especially on this inaugural list,\u201d Cetina said via press release. \u201cWe\u2019re proud to represent the South Central Los Angeles community on an international stage and amongst a group of esteemed chefs that we admire.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Last but not least, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/los-angeles\/news\/michelin-awards-new-stars-to-four-l-a-restaurants-for-2025including-the-citys-first-ever-three-star-eateries-062625\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">newly three-Michelin-starred<\/a> tasting menu Providence in Hollywood was recognized at No. 47 and named as a \u201cpioneer of sustainable, seafood-centric American fine dining.\u201d The North America\u2019s 50 Best description nods to Providence\u2019s newer renovations, completed in 2023, which the judges compare \u201cto being enveloped in a luxe abalone shell.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"100a8315-e7c3-341f-65e7-c830158daea6\" class=\"photo lazy inline\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"lazy-embed\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/1758869892_212_image.webp.webp\" alt=\"Providence new dining room\" data-caption=\"Providence\" data-credit=\"Photograph: Courtesy Daniel Collopy\" data-width-class=\"\" data-image-id=\"106103757\"\/>&#13;<br \/>\nPhotograph: Courtesy Daniel CollopyProvidence&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Nodding to Providence\u2019s longtime status as a fine dining institution (it recently celebrated its 20th birthday), the organization\u00a0says that the restaurant is just as \u201crelevant today as it was in 2005.\u201d The listing also notes the sustainably minded restaurant\u2019s roof garden, which includes a beehive, herbs and flowers; house-processed Hawaiian cacao, courtesy of pastry chef Mac Dimla; and theatrical tableside cocktails made with rare spirits.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor us, this is less a finish line than a promise to Los Angeles,\u201d chef and co-owner Michael Cimarusti said via press release.\u00a0\u201cWe\u2019ve grown up with this city, and the credit lives with our partners, our dining room, and the people who bring us the very best of the Pacific. This makes the inclusion of Holbox, which primarily serves seafood\u00a0\u00e0 la carte, all the more notable; it\u2019s the only non-tasting menu in California to be named to the North America\u2019s 50 Best Restaurants.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At this point, you\u2019re probably asking: Who was ranked the absolute best in North America? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/newyork\/restaurants\/atomix\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Atomix<\/a> in New York City, of course. Previously, the modern Korean fine dining restaurant in Midtown Manhattan was already named No. 12 on the World\u2019s 50 Best Restaurants list for 2025 back in June, making it the highest-ranking restaurant in North America.
