The Professional Fire Fighters of Arizona have joined the Citizens for a Highly Skilled Workforce committee in support of Propositions 403 and 406 on the November special election ballot.<\/p>\n
The organization, which represents more than 9,000 firefighters and emergency medical professionals statewide, supports vocational training, including the fire science and EMT programs offered by West-MEC.<\/p>\n
Professional Fire Fighters of Arizona President Dan Freiberg and Executive Vice President Tom Carretto issued a joint letter of support, stating:<\/p>\n
\u201cWest-MEC\u2019s Fire Science program offers students hands-on training in firefighting tactics, search and rescue procedures, and simulated emergency scenarios. Dual enrollment opportunities allow high school students to earn college credit, while industry certifications \u2014 such as Wildland Firefighter and the CPAT \u2014 equip graduates to immediately enter the workforce. These programs are more than just training \u2014 they\u2019re pathways to lifelong careers and economic independence.\u201d<\/p>\n
The letter also highlighted the broader benefits of West-MEC\u2019s career and technical education offerings.<\/p>\n
\u201cFire Science is only one relevant example. By voting yes on Propositions 403 and 406, voters will open doors for students in many new industries throughout the region while continuing to strengthen existing programs,\u201d the letter said.<\/p>\n
Citizens for a Highly Skilled Workforce co-chair Heather Raithel added:<\/p>\n
