During an interview on Smith\u2019s “Straight Shooter” podcast<\/a>, the host, who has flirted with running for the presidency, asked Maher, “Who\u2019s the candidate on the left that can somehow derail [Trump]? Because I don\u2019t see anybody with a national presence that can pull that off. Where are you on that?”<\/p>\n “I see somebody right here in my Zoom camera,” Maher replied.<\/p>\n Smith denied that he would run, saying he is too careful about giving up his money, but Maher pressed his case, arguing the Democratic Party is a “ghost brand,” like one of the major chain stores<\/a> once ubiquitous in shopping malls that have struggled in recent times but still are remembered by the public.\u00a0<\/p>\n STEPHEN A. And you\u2019re the only one I hear who doesn\u2019t look like he cares what the other Democrats will say about it,” Maher said.<\/p>\n “I don\u2019t care. I really don\u2019t,” Smith agreed. “I don\u2019t give a damn what they say. I really don\u2019t.”<\/p>\n “I know,” Maher agreed, “I don\u2019t either. I\u2019m right where you are. We\u2019re very close on all these things.
