JACKSONVILLE, Fla. <\/strong> \u2013 R&B singer Glenn Jones is back home in Jacksonville, where he is putting on a concert on Friday for his birthday<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\u201cTo see all of my old friends, my schoolmates and all of that, my family, I\u2019m just excited,\u201d Jones said.<\/p>\n

He is turning 63 years old on Saturday.<\/p>\n

But, Friday night, he is celebrating by putting on a concert at the Ritz Theatre and Museum<\/a>. It is a place he has never performed before, but vividly remembers from growing up nearby. <\/p>\n

\u201cHere I Go Again\u201d is a song Jones saw reach the top of the Billboard R&B charts in the early \u201990s.<\/p>\n

On Sept. 26, 2025, he is back in his hometown for a special night of music. <\/p>\n

\u201cI just want them to have an understanding and record of who I was as a musician, songwriter, producer, and just as a homeboy,\u201d Jones said. \u201cI\u2019m from Duval.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jones is making his debut at the Ritz Theatre and Museum.<\/p>\n

\u201cI remember growing up as a child on 19th Street between Myrtle Avenue and Moncrief,\u201d he said. \u201cI remember walking to the Ritz when it was a movie theater. I remember seeing \u2018The Mack,\u2019 \u2018Super Fly\u2019 and \u2018Shaft,\u2019 and all of those movies.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jones had several songs that claimed spots up and down the Billboard R&B charts, including \u201cShow Me\u201d and \u201cWe\u2019ve Only Just Begun\u201d (The Romance Is Not Over).<\/p>\n

\u201cI want [people] to hear the passion,\u201d Jones said. \u201cI want them to hear the sincerity, and I want them to hear the spirituality. Whether it is a love between a man and a woman, a mother and a child or spiritual love. The thing about real music, melodic music is it will always be here. People can say that R&B is dead. No it is not because that is the root of everything.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jones lives in Atlanta. He is also a Grammy-nominated producer, a music executive who formed his own record label called Talent Room Entertainment in 2018 and holds a pair of honorary doctorates. <\/p>\n

Jones received one honorary doctorate degree from Harvest Christian University in 2023 and another from Trinity International University of Ambassadors School of Business in 2024.<\/p>\n

But this one night in Jacksonville is another opportunity he won\u2019t take for granted.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is just me reclaiming my hometown,\u201d Jones said. \u201cReclaiming my place of birth where I came up, where I lived in my life until I got about 21 [years old] and left. Over the years, God has blessed me to do some great music. Some music that is timely, but timeless.\u201d<\/p>\n
