{"id":256313,"date":"2025-09-26T14:36:24","date_gmt":"2025-09-26T14:36:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/256313\/"},"modified":"2025-09-26T14:36:24","modified_gmt":"2025-09-26T14:36:24","slug":"south-dallas-forest-theater-could-see-some-upgrades-finished-by-years-end","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/256313\/","title":{"rendered":"South Dallas\u2019 Forest Theater could see some upgrades finished by year\u2019s end"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">In South Dallas, the historic Forest Theater could be offering tours to community members by the end of this year as renovations give new life to the roughly 75-year-old space.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">The theater\u2019s exterior is expected to be complete by the end of the year, with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/2025\/01\/03\/forest-theater-restoration-in-south-dallas-to-be-mostly-finished-by-end-of-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/2025\/01\/03\/forest-theater-restoration-in-south-dallas-to-be-mostly-finished-by-end-of-2025\/\">interior work continuing<\/a> into next year. The theater\u2019s renovations are expected to be mostly complete around May. We\u2019re going to work. The site, expected to host over 140 events per year, includes a 28,000-square-foot expansion, city officials have said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">The theater is expected to be restored as a hub for the South Dallas community, part of a larger vision to showcase talent, foster economic opportunity and offer educational resources to an area affected by disinvestment, segregation and redlining. Plans for the area include mixed-income housing, walkable spaces and a partnership with nearby Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Arts Academy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Historically, Forest Theater on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard was a hub for Black audiences and has featured acts including Tina Turner, B.B. King and Dallas\u2019 own Erykah Badu. The site has been a nightclub, a synagogue, church and movie theater.
