PGA Tour winner Jake Knapp remembered his late girlfriend Makena White<\/a> as selfless and thoughtful in his first public comments since her sudden death at 28 years old, saying it\u2019s \u201ca tough reality to comprehend.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMakena was such a thoughtful person whose selflessness toward others is something I will always appreciate,\u201d Knapp told People<\/a> in a statement on Friday. \u201cWe shared so many unforgettable memories together and now that she\u2019s no longer with us, it\u2019s a tough reality to comprehend.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe had an incredible family, great friends, and her fun, outgoing energy will be missed by all of us. It\u2019s an understatement to say how hard all of this is to process for everyone who knew Mak, especially her family and friends, who deserve privacy and respect during this difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n

The devastated friend remembered White for her \u201chuge heart\u201d and overflowing love.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo be loved by Makena was a gift; one that came with endless laughter, so much joy, and a healthy sprinkling of chaos as we tried to keep up with her travel schedule,\u201d the post read.<\/p>\n

White had been dating the 31-year-old American golfer for two years, making their relationship public after Knapp won the 2024 Mexico Open as a rookie, his only tour win.<\/p>\n

In August, White shared a tribute<\/a> to the couple\u2019s relationship for their anniversary, which featured pictures of the two together at various golf tournaments over the last year.<\/p>\n

\u201cYear 2 of first fairway hugs & watching you live out your dreams,\u201d she wrote. \u201cSecond season in the books \u2014 forever grateful to be on this walk with you, here\u2019s to many many many more! I looooove you sweet boy, you make it so dang easy to be proud.\u201d<\/p>\n

No cause of death has been released. <\/p>\n

Sympathy for White was shared in the comments section of her final post, with golf insider Dan Rapaport writing, \u201cWhat a light she was.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cGetting to know Makena was one of my favorite parts of this last year,\u201d CBS gold reporter Amanda Balionis commented. \u201cSo much laughter, passion and she never met a stranger. I will miss her light\u2026 it touched so many.\u201d<\/p>\n
