Weather records <\/strong>(from the National Weather Service, Chicago<\/a>)<\/p>\n 1970:<\/strong> The Chicago Bears beat the Philadelphia Eagles in their home opener, which was held at Northwestern University\u2019s Dyche Stadium (now Ryan Field)<\/a> in Evanston.<\/p>\n Despite winning 20-16, reviews of the Bears\u2019 performance were brutal.<\/p>\n From Wrigley Field to Soldier Field: Where the Chicago Bears have played home games since 1921<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n \u201cThe Bears committed almost every possible type of football sin. They were penalized for almost every foul in the book,\u201d Tribune sports editor Cooper Rollow wrote.<\/p>\n Evanston didn\u2019t think much of the Bears either. Residents petitioned city officials to block the\u00a0Bears\u00a0from moving there. The Bears signed a\u00a0five-year deal<\/a>\u00a0with Northwestern in early 1971, but the Big Ten Conference\u00a0denied permission<\/a>\u00a0for the team to lease Dyche Stadium two weeks later.<\/p>\n 1974:<\/strong> Marc Chagall\u2019s \u201cThe Four Seasons,\u201d<\/a> a 3,000-square-foot mosaic, was dedicated in the outdoor plaza of the First National Bank (now Chase Tower Plaza).<\/p>\n Upon seeing its final changes, the 87-year-old artist said, \u201cNot bad, eh? I hope the people will like it.\u201d<\/p>\n Chagall\u2019s \u201cAmerica Windows\u201d<\/a> were dedicated in 1977, at the Art Institute of Chicago. They were his gift to the city in honor of late Mayor Richard J. Daley.<\/p>\n 1993:<\/strong> The Chicago White Sox clinched<\/a> the American League West \u2014 their first division title in a decade. \u201cBewitching\u201d pitching from 23-year-old left-hander Wilson Alvarez and a storybook three-run home run by Bo Jackson gave the Sox a 4-2 win over the Seattle Mariners at Comiskey Park.<\/p>\n The Sox lost<\/a> the American League Championship Series to the Toronto Blue Jays 4-2.<\/p>\n 1995:<\/strong>\u00a0Crews began\u00a0demolition<\/a>\u00a0of a Cabrini-Green high-rise, the first to be razed.<\/p>\n 2021:<\/strong> R&B singer R. Kelly<\/a> was convicted in a sex trafficking trial in New York, after decades of avoiding criminal responsibility for numerous allegations of misconduct with young women and children. Kelly is serving a 20-year prison sentence<\/a> for his convictions, simultaneously with a 30-year sentence imposed in 2022<\/a>\u00a0on racketeering charges.<\/p>\n 2024:<\/strong> The White Sox reached the pinnacle of baseball infamy with record-breaking loss No. 121<\/a>, falling to the Detroit Tigers in front of a sellout crowd of 44,435 at Comerica Park.<\/p>\n The 2024 Chicago White Sox lost often \u2014 and in every fashion.
