(Bob Fila\/Chicago Today)<\/p>\n<p><strong>1970:<\/strong> The Chicago Bears beat the Philadelphia Eagles in their home opener, which was held at Northwestern University\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/chicagotribune.newspapers.com\/article\/chicago-tribune-just-plain-bad-game-at-d\/164634194\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dyche Stadium (now Ryan Field)<\/a> in Evanston.<\/p>\n<p>Despite winning 20-16, reviews of the Bears\u2019 performance were brutal.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"rCZTUtt4tH\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2024\/04\/24\/chicago-bears-home-game-stadiums\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">From Wrigley Field to Soldier Field: Where the Chicago Bears have played home games since 1921<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe Bears committed almost every possible type of football sin. They were penalized for almost every foul in the book,\u201d Tribune sports editor Cooper Rollow wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Evanston didn\u2019t think much of the Bears either. Residents petitioned city officials to block the\u00a0Bears\u00a0from moving there. The Bears signed a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/chicagotribune.newspapers.com\/image\/377164725\/?match=1&amp;terms=bears%20%22dyche%20stadium%22%20northwestern\" data-mrf-link=\"https:\/\/chicagotribune.newspapers.com\/image\/377164725\/?match=1&amp;terms=bears%20%22dyche%20stadium%22%20northwestern\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">five-year deal<\/a>\u00a0with Northwestern in early 1971, but the Big Ten Conference\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/chicagotribune.newspapers.com\/image\/377041878\/?terms=%22chicago%20bears%22%20%22dyche%20stadium%22&amp;match=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-mrf-link=\"https:\/\/chicagotribune.newspapers.com\/image\/377041878\/?terms=%22chicago%20bears%22%20%22dyche%20stadium%22&amp;match=1\">denied permission<\/a>\u00a0for the team to lease Dyche Stadium two weeks later.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"Marc Chagall's &quot;The Four Seasons,&quot; was blocked off during construction at Chase Tower Plaza, in Chicago, on Oct. 19, 2024. (Antonio Perez\/Chicago Tribune)<\/p>\n<p><strong>1974:<\/strong> Marc Chagall\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/chicagotribune.newspapers.com\/article\/chicago-tribune-marc-chagall-talks-about\/181802038\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cThe Four Seasons,\u201d<\/a> a 3,000-square-foot mosaic, was dedicated in the outdoor plaza of the First National Bank (now Chase Tower Plaza).<\/p>\n<p>Upon seeing its final changes, the 87-year-old artist said, \u201cNot bad, eh? I hope the people will like it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chagall\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/chicagotribune.newspapers.com\/article\/chicago-tribune-mrs-daley-bilandic-ded\/172291150\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cAmerica Windows\u201d<\/a> were dedicated in 1977, at the Art Institute of Chicago. They were his gift to the city in honor of late Mayor Richard J. Kelly<\/a> was convicted in a sex trafficking trial in New York, after decades of avoiding criminal responsibility for numerous allegations of misconduct with young women and children.
