{"id":258762,"date":"2025-09-27T12:55:11","date_gmt":"2025-09-27T12:55:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/258762\/"},"modified":"2025-09-27T12:55:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-27T12:55:11","slug":"exclusive-chez-mamdani-you-too-can-live-like-the-1-percent-at-zos-posh-family-compound-in-uganda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/258762\/","title":{"rendered":"Exclusive | Chez Mamdani: You too can live like the 1 percent at Zo&#8217;s posh family compound in Uganda &#8211;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Silver-spoon Democratic NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani is a longtime Airbnb foe who <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/17\/us-news\/republican-party-slams-zohran-mamdanis-support-for-abolition-of-private-property\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pushed for the \u201cthe abolition of private property\u201d<\/a> \u2014 yet his filthy-rich parents have rented their posh Ugandan compound\u00a0on the online site for nearly a decade, The Post has learned.<\/p>\n<p>The five-bedroom, four-bathroom villa owned by Columbia University Professor\u00a0Mahmood Mamdani and Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Mira Nair offers breathtaking views of Lake Victoria and has monkeys traipsing through its lush two acres, according an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airbnb.com\/rooms\/20931201?viralityEntryPoint=1&amp;unique_share_id=50CE6C79-019A-4AEA-9595-6E49183236DD&amp;slcid=dd6b8cbbd389428aa0abb2d20d8ea5ab&amp;s=76&amp;adults=1&amp;slug=fS3wfndz&amp;source_impression_id=p3_1758921185_P3_39v-Ga7j2Mg3C\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Airbnb<\/a> listing active for the last eight years.<\/p>\n<p>The far-from-proletariat estate is a far cry from the everyday Joe their socialist son attempts to portray on the campaign trail \u2013 even as he\u2019s come under fire for <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/08\/09\/us-news\/cuomo-bashes-rich-person-mamdani-for-hogging-2300-from-homeless-new-yorkers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shamelessly living in a dirt-cheap rent-stabilized apartment\u00a0in Queens despite his affluent upbringing.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The listing doesn\u2019t reveal the exact address, but it provides a Google Maps image matching the location of the Mamdani family\u2019s\u00a0gated-compound in the wealthy Buziga Hill area, located outside the capital city of Kampala.<\/p>\n<p>Silver-spoon socialist Zohran Mamdani is longtime Airbnb opponent, yet the NYC mayoral frontrunner\u2019s filthy rich parents have been listing their ritzy, secluded Ugandan compound on the short-term rental site the past eight years, The Post has learned. Gabriella Bass<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis space will give you the unique chance to share an artistic home and enjoy the music of nature. The cult film Mississippi Masala was filmed here!\u201d says the listing, referring to the 1991 romantic comedy starring Denzel Washington that Nair directed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBirdlife is magnificent here, along with (non-aggressive) monkeys at dawn. Staffed with a veteran housekeeper &amp; gardeners, this home is a rare, art-filled oasis, 20 minutes from downtown Kampala. AirBnb<\/p>\n<p>The compound \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/26\/us-news\/zohran-mamdanis-presidential-style-uganda-wedding-bash\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">where Mamdani celebrated his nuptials to\u00a0artist Rama Duwaji with a lavish, three-day affair in July <\/a>\u2013 has earned a five-star rating on the short-term rental site, with many guests posting gushing reviews. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Prices are free flowing. <\/p>\n<p>A kitchen with a round table in the foreground, a stove with orange-tiled backsplash in the midground, and a kettle-shaped sign saying \u201cUganda Chai\u201d in the background. AirBnb<\/p>\n<p>A four-day, three-night stay from Oct. 24-27 can be had for $1021 \u2013 or a little over $340 a night. A three-day, two-night Christmas stay from Dec. 23-25 is available for nearly $667 \u2014 or $333.45 a night.<\/p>\n<p>The compound is currently available all but 20 days through March \u2014 with nine days already booked next month.<\/p>\n<p>A locked gate outside Mamdani\u2019s family compound. New York Post<\/p>\n<p>Guests have access to a 15-meter, in-ground lap pool, a badminton court, furnished and art-filled bedrooms, and a \u201cverandah\u201d with a long dining table and Indian Tandoor oven that overlooks the lake. Its patio is frequented by trumpeter hornbills.<\/p>\n<p>The grounds are staffed in a manner befitting the patrician class, with two armed security guards who patrol the gated compound nightly, housekeepers, and \u201can excellent cook in Indian &amp; continental cuisine\u201d who\u2019ll prepare two meals daily for 50,000 Ugandan shillings ($14.35 in U.S. dollars), the posting says.<\/p>\n<p>One of the villa\u2019s five bedrooms includes a wooden, four-poster bed draped in white mosquito netting, a bedspread with African patterns, and two stuffed elephants. AirBnb<\/p>\n<p>Not one, but two gardeners\u00a0maintain \u201cthe exquisite gardens, swimming pool, badminton court, table-tennis table,\u201d the listing gushes.<\/p>\n<p>A masseuse name Jessica can provide an hour-long private \u201caromatherapy\u201d massage for $40.<\/p>\n<p>Laundry services are also available \u2014 for $15.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the one-percenter trappings Mamdani enjoys in his native Africa and from which his parents profit, the socialist mayoral candidate is a longtime critic of Airbnb.<\/p>\n<p>He posted <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ZohranKMamdani\/status\/1882531404569031026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on X<\/a> Jan. 23 that \u201cin the midst of a historic housing crisis, I strongly oppose Airbnb\u2019s legislation to turn thousands of homes into short-term tourist rentals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Queens assemblyman was referring to pending City Council legislation seeking to waive one- and two-family homes from a crackdown NYC put on the industry in 2023 in response to a slew of complaints about rogue Airbnb hosts.<\/p>\n<p>The compound includes monkeys traipsing through its lush two acres. AirBnb<\/p>\n<p>Republican mayoral nominee Curtis Sliwa said the shocking revelation is another example of Mamdani \u201cliving two lives\u201d and \u201cdictating to all of us to \u2018do as I say, but not as I do.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s a trust-fund baby,\u201d Sliwa told The Post. \u201cHe grew up very privileged, sheltered, shielded, and he really believes he\u2019s better than everyone else. There\u2019s two standards: standards for all of you, standards for me. And I don\u2019t think in his mind, he has any problem, basically separating the two.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Among the top NYC labor unions backing Mamdani\u2019s mayoral run is the powerful Hotel and Gaming Trades Council, which opposes Airbnb because of the strain it believes short-term home rentals puts on the hotel industry and union jobs.<\/p>\n<p>However, a super PAC supporting Airbnb \u2013 called \u201cAffordable New York\u201d \u2014\u00a0 has spent more than $3.6 million this year helping elect city and state candidates willing to support\u00a0short-term rentals \u2013 including $440,533 directly on ads and other materials opposing Mamdani, records show.<\/p>\n<p>Mamdani\u2019s parents, Nair, 67, and her husband,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/16\/us-news\/zohran-mamdani-followed-in-dads-footsteps-to-found-sjp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mahmood Mamdani<\/a>, 78, an<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/12\/us-news\/mamdanis-dad-part-of-anti-israel-group-sympathetic-to-suicide-bombers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0anti-Israel political theorist<\/a>, live on the Ugandan estate but also split their time between New York and New Delhi.<\/p>\n<p>A native of Kampala, the 33-year-old mayoral frontrunner moved to New York when he was 7, becoming a U.S citizen in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Mamdani celebrated his nuptials to\u00a0artist Rama Duwaji with a lavish, three-day affair in July.  Instagram\/Le March\u00e9 des Fleurs<\/p>\n<p>The Airnbnb listing currently notes a person named \u201cDelia\u201d as the property\u2019s host, but older reviews thank a woman named \u201cMira\u201d \u2013 likely a reference to Nair \u2013 for offering up her home for short-term stays. It\u2019s unclear when the host\u2019s identity was changed on the site.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMira\u2019s place was absolutely spectacular,\u201d wrote Molly from New York in a December 2017 review awarding five stars. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe place is gorgeous, with breathtaking views. We were welcomed with wonderful hospitality and everything was easy. There was water in the rooms, tea readily available, and friendly faces to answer questions. We can\u2019t say enough good things about the place.
