{"id":258764,"date":"2025-09-27T12:56:29","date_gmt":"2025-09-27T12:56:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/258764\/"},"modified":"2025-09-27T12:56:29","modified_gmt":"2025-09-27T12:56:29","slug":"jim-walden-endorses-andrew-cuomo-weeks-after-dropping-out-of-mayoral-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/258764\/","title":{"rendered":"Jim Walden endorses Andrew Cuomo weeks after dropping out of mayoral race"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Weeks after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/09\/02\/nyregion\/jim-walden-mayor-campaign.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">suspending his independent mayoral campaign<\/a>, Jim Walden formally endorsed Andrew Cuomo on Thursday and urged all remaining candidates besides Democratic front-runner Zohran Mamdani to also line up behind the ex-governor.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, Walden \u2014 a lawyer who launched a long-shot bid but never pulled more than 1% support in polls of November\u2019s mayoral election \u2014 stressed his endorsement of Cuomo is in large part aimed at stopping Mamdani, a democratic socialist.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/2025\/01\/13\/jim-walden-raises-630k-in-his-mayoral-campaigns-first-reporting-period\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">political moderate<\/a>, Walden argued Mamdani can only win the November contest \u201cif centrist votes are split\u201d between Cuomo, Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa and Mayor Adams, who\u2019s also running as an independent. Cuomo has consistently polled as the most potent threat to Mamdani.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUniting in support of one candidate, Andrew Cuomo, is the only way to save New York from extremism, and prevent the city from becoming a cautionary tale for the entire country,\u201d said Walden, who\u2019s known for representing high-profile clients. \u201cMayor Adams and Curtis Sliwa have run spirited campaigns. They have earned respect. But the time has come.
