Autumn is well on its way in the northern hemisphere. To mark the seasonal shift, we’ve compiled a lookbook<\/a> of eight open-plan living rooms<\/a> cosied up with warm, earthy tones.<\/p>\n

From mountainous India to the Scottish coastline, these living spaces combine finishes and soft furnishings that nod to the colours of autumn leaves with views out to nature.<\/p>\n

Bid summer farewell and welcome in these eight homey projects from around the world.<\/p>\n

Zero House, UK, by Rae Morris and Ben Garrett<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Zero House is the north London<\/a> home of recording artists Rae Morris and Ben Garrett, who renovated the mid-century<\/a> property themselves.<\/p>\n

Slim mahogany tiles clad the floor-to-ceiling fireplace in the living room, which is accented by a burnt orange sofa and matchbox timber ceilings stained in a dark reddish tone.<\/p>\n

Reeded 1970s-style glass and floor-to-ceiling sliding doors provide views of the property’s lush garden and its many trees.<\/p>\n

Paris apartment, France, by Atelier HA<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Local studio Atelier HA used colour “as a structural element” in this Paris apartment<\/a>, set within a 19th-century building constructed during architect Georges-Eug\u00e8ne Haussmann’s famed renovation of the city.<\/p>\n

A stripy kitchen<\/a> counter sets the tone in the vibrant open-plan living space, featuring soft orange seating, sculptural furniture and lighting finished in pops of bright green.<\/p>\n

Tidal House, Scotland, by Brown & Brown and Sam Buckley<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Tidal House is a coastal home located on the Solway Coast in southern Scotland<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Local studio Brown & Brown<\/a> constructed the building out of stacked geometric volumes with large openings that look out onto tidal flats, and dressed the open-plan living space with crimson walls and nut-brown sofas arranged around a striking suspended fireplace.<\/p>\n

Shadow House, Australia, by Grotto Studio<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Australian practice Grotto Studio added a charred timber extension<\/a> to a bright cottage in Perth<\/a> to create the earthy-toned Shadow House.<\/p>\n

The open-plan living room features light brown wooden panels and deep red artwork, brought to life by a rectilinear clerestory window.<\/p>\n

Hybrid House, India, by Sketch Design Studio<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Set at the foot of the Aravalli mountains in the northern Indian state of\u00a0Rajasthan<\/a>, Sketch Design Studio’s Hybrid House is characterised by a large open-plan living area with lime plaster walls.<\/p>\n

Here, terracotta<\/a> flooring is dissected by kolam detailing, a type of inlay created using rice flour, which complements the space’s dark brown seating, while a sprawling house plant adds a calming touch of green.<\/p>\n

Casa Magarola, Spain, by Ra\u00fal S\u00e1nchez Architects<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Spanish studio Ra\u00fal S\u00e1nchez Architects<\/a> chose a burnt orange-toned render for the facade of Casa Magarola, a blocky concrete home perched on a steeply sloping site near\u00a0Barcelona<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The vivid hue was repeated on the interior in the form of window frames and a dramatic spiral staircase, complemented by a mustard-yellow sofa in the open-plan living space.<\/p>\n

Somers House, Australia, by Kennedy Nolan<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Australian practice Kennedy Nolan<\/a> constructed Somers House as an L-shaped property on a coastal site in Victoria<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The semi-open-plan living space is characterised by a textural, earthy colour palette chosen to evoke a sense of peace, with cork, raw brass and purpley brown tiles taking centre stage in the design.<\/p>\n

Courtyard House, USA, by No Architecture<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

A glazed garden filled with deciduous trees<\/a> was placed at the centre of Courtyard House, an Oregon<\/a> home by American studio No Architecture.<\/p>\n

On the interior, the studio selected a large orange rug for the open-plan living room to complement the building’s leafy surroundings.<\/p>\n
