Take this year’s Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, for example – it’s a brand-new title from a fresh team and has taken the industry by storm.

Credit to Project Renegade: The Becoming, then – this Resident Evil-inspired single player narrative action game could be one to watch.

Subscribe to Push Square on YouTube162k

The title’s being developed by Chinese studio Invercity Game Works, a team we can’t find any additional information on.

But it looks really cool – it’s a traditional third-person shooter with gun-fu elements, so instead of just shooting zombies like in most games, you’ll be juggling with your ammunition and doing acrobatics.

Here’s how the official blurb introduces the plot:

“In 1995, humanity’s last hope – Project Retrograde – collapsed as the underground world was shattered by the ancient parasite L.U.C.A. Play as a bounty hunter symbiotic with parasite, using its dangerous power to save the world, even if it consumes you.”

As alluded to above, you’ll be augmented with parasitic skills, which you’ll be able to upgrade throughout the campaign to enhance your combat prowess.

“Delve into the post-apocalyptic realm filled with retro technology. Manipulate the LUX system to alter underground weather, or climb towers to reach unknown regions and uncover the truth buried for years.”

There’s no release date just yet, but the title is planned for PS5 at launch, and looks like it could be pushing Sony’s system hard.

While it’s clearly been heavily inspired by Resident Evil, this looks like yet another Chinese title that’s propelled by some pretty remarkable production values. There’s a lot of them emerging at the moment, isn’t there?

[source youtube.com]

Related Games

See Also

As the Editor of Push Square, Sammy has over 15 years of experience analysing the world of PlayStation, from PS3 through PS5 and everything in between.
