Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[New York City] is going down a very dark path, and it\u2019s sad,\u201d said Suaraz, the son of Miami\u2019s first Cuban-born mayor, Xavier Suarez.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s some people that say \u2014 and I am not one of them \u2014 that maybe [electing a socialist mayor in NYC] is best for America in a backwards way because, once you see the abject failure that it will be, there will be a correction and a reset. But I don\u2019t want people to suffer for that to happen.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The Republican said New Yorkers \u201cshould be terrified\u201d of socialism and communism \u2014 not embrace it.<\/p>\n<p>Queens Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani, a Democratic socialist, is the favorite to win this year\u2019s New York City mayor\u2019s race.  Andrew Schwartz \/ SplashNews.com<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy parents fled [Cuba] . . . because a young charismatic leader said \u2018Give us all your property, give us all your businesses, and don\u2019t worry, we\u2019ll make everybody equal.\u2019 And he did,\u201d said Suarez.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe made everybody equally poor, equally miserable, and equally repressed. And that\u2019s all that communism has delivered throughout the history of humanity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time Suarez has attacked Mamdani. He poked fun at the socialist on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/DNx0oMbXFvQ\/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&amp;igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA%3D%3D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Instagram<\/a> last month by posting video of himself bench-pressing 225 pounds 13 times next to <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/08\/23\/us-news\/zohran-mamdani-fails-to-bench-press-meagre-weight-while-trying-to-show-off-at-annual-mens-day-in-brooklyn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mamdani famously struggling <\/a>to lift 135 pounds at a Brooklyn \u201cMen\u2019s Day\u201d event, with the caption \u201cSocialism VS Capitalism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Miami Mayor Francis Suarez (right) speaks as President Donald Trump (left) and U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent (middle) in the Oval Office at the White House on September 5, 2025.
