\n President Donald Trump on Saturday accused former FBI Director Christopher Wray of lying about FBI agents\u2019 presence during the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, days after his administration brought charges against Wray\u2019s predecessor, James Comey.\n <\/p>\n
\n Trump claimed, without evidence, that the FBI \u201csecretly placed\u201d agents into the crowds to act as \u201cagitators and insurrections,\u201d rather than law enforcement officials, in what he called \u201cthe January 6 hoax.\u201d\n <\/p>\n
\n \u201cThis is different from what Director Christopher Wray stated, over and over again! That\u2019s right, as it now turns out, FBI Agents were at, and in, the January 6th Protest, probably acting as Agitators and Insurrectionists, but certainly not as \u2018Law Enforcement Officials,\u2019\u201d Trump said on Truth Social<\/a>.\n <\/p>\n \n CNN has reached out to Wray for comment.\n <\/p>\n \n As CNN previously reported<\/a>, no undercover FBI agents were at the Capitol during the January 6 riot, according to a Justice Department watchdog. However, the DOJ inspector general said that 26 paid FBI informants were in Washington, DC, that day.\n <\/p>\n \n \u201cI want to know who each and every one of these so-called \u2018Agents\u2019 are, and what they were up to on that now \u2018Historic\u2019 Day. Many Great American Patriots were made to pay a very big price only for the love of their Country. I owe this investigation of \u2018Dirty Cops and Crooked Politicians\u2019 to them!\u201d Trump continued.\n <\/p>\n \n House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said Saturday that the president was lying.\n <\/p>\n \n \u201cDonald Trump is lying to the American people about the events of January 6. He can\u2019t justify the fact that he helped to incite a mob of violent individuals who attacked the Capitol as part of an effort to try to reverse and undermine the results of the 2020 presidential election,\u201d Jeffries said on MSNBC.\n <\/p>\n \n Trump nominated Wray<\/a> to serve as FBI director during his first term following Comey\u2019s firing. Saturday\u2019s message comes days after a federal grand jury indicted<\/a> Comey, an extraordinary escalation in the president\u2019s effort to prosecute his political enemies. The Justice Department has accused Comey of giving false statements and obstructing justice. Trump, who told CNN on Friday that other indictments<\/a> would come, appears to be turning his attention to Wray.\n <\/p>\n \n \u201cChristopher Wray, the then Director of the FBI, has some major explaining to do.
