{"id":260039,"date":"2025-09-28T00:43:13","date_gmt":"2025-09-28T00:43:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/260039\/"},"modified":"2025-09-28T00:43:13","modified_gmt":"2025-09-28T00:43:13","slug":"eric-adams-responds-to-staying-in-n-y-mayoral-race-nbc-new-york","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/260039\/","title":{"rendered":"Eric Adams responds to staying in N.Y. mayoral race \u2013 NBC New York"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"anchor-f81142\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnewyork.com\/tag\/new-york-city\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">New York City<\/a> Mayor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnewyork.com\/tag\/Eric-adams\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Eric Adams<\/a> wouldn&#8217;t commit to seeing his re-election campaign through to Election Day, saying on MSNBC\u2019s \u201cPoliticsNation\u201d Saturday that he will make the \u201cright decision for the city of New York.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-b7d330\">For weeks, Adams has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/donald-trump\/trump-new-york-mayoral-race-rcna229147\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">faced rumors<\/a>\u00a0that he could drop out of the race in an effort to boost former Gov. Andrew Cuomo over Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani, a state assemblyman. President Donald Trump\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/donald-trump\/trump-says-see-two-candidates-drop-crowded-new-york-mayoral-race-rcna229256\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">told reporters earlier this month<\/a>, \u201cI would like to see two people drop out\u201d of the race. Adams soon after\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnewyork.com\/news\/politics\/adams-no-formal-job-offers-from-trump-says-hes-still-in-running-for-nyc-mayor\/6385249\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">held a defiant press conference<\/a>\u00a0saying he\u2019d stay in the race and that he\u2019s received no \u201cformal offers\u201d from the White House.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-d1c283\">But during his Saturday interview, Adams lamented the media coverage of his campaign, arguing it has hurt his ability to mount a competitive run.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-d43b2b\">\u201cIf someone constantly reports, even when you say otherwise, that you\u2019re leaving the race the next day, you\u2019re leaving the race the next day, you lose your funders and your donors. And so it\u2019s been a real challenge for me to raise the money that I need to run for office,\u201d Adams said.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-bb6699\">\u201cIs the real agenda to cover me the same way you are covering the other candidates or to undermine my campaign?\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-170760\">When the show\u2019s host, the Rev. Al Sharpton, replied by asking if there was \u201cno circumstance\u201d under which Adams would withdraw from the race, Adams replied: \u201cNo, I can\u2019t say that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-f2e57e\">\u201cI\u2019ve been sitting down with my team, having our pathways, finding out how we get the money into the coffers to do the commercials, to do the mailers, to pay for our team and staff,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-dee267\">\u201cWe\u2019ve got to make the right decision. I\u2019ll make the right decision for the city of New York, a city I love,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-0be55d\">Mamdani has polled well ahead of the rest of the field in public polling of the city\u2019s mayoral general election, with Adams struggling to eclipse single digits. The mayor has also trailed both Mamdani and Cuomo significantly in campaign fundraising and spending.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-a5a7b1\">Adams\u2019 political future was derailed first by corruption charges and then by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/eric-adams-corruption-case-permanently-dismissed-rcna199266\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Trump administration\u2019s decision to drop them<\/a>, which soured Democratic voters on the incumbent mayor.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-13c627\">Prosecutors accused him of taking more than $100,000 in free airfare and luxury hotel stays from wealthy Turkish nationals during his time in local government, arguing he carried out official favors in return. Adams, who has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing, subsequently chose to run an independent bid instead of seeking the Democratic nomination.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-6d1f55\">Asked about Trump and the decision to drop the charges against him, Adams thanked the president for his \u201chelp\u201d in dismissing the \u201cbogus charges\u201d against him and repeatedly said he did not discuss the case directly with Trump.
