{"id":261372,"date":"2025-09-28T13:31:10","date_gmt":"2025-09-28T13:31:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/261372\/"},"modified":"2025-09-28T13:31:10","modified_gmt":"2025-09-28T13:31:10","slug":"everything-you-need-to-know-san-diego-union-tribune","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/261372\/","title":{"rendered":"Everything you need to know \u2013 San Diego Union-Tribune"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Continuity and expansion are the twin pillars for the second annual San Diego Tijuana International Jazz Festival, which takes places Thursday through next Sunday on both sides of the border.<\/p>\n<p>The lineup boasts Grammy Award-winners Arturo O\u2019Farrill, John Clayton, David S\u00e1nchez and Jorge Castillo, an all-star tribute to the late sax legend (and former San Diegan) James Moody, and such standout local artists as Gilbert Castellanos, Holly Hofmann, Irving Flores and Ivan Trujillo.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"kXiJ4q80c6\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiegouniontribune.com\/2025\/05\/11\/james-moody-at-100-the-late-music-great-is-being-celebrated-near-and-far\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">James Moody at 100: The late music great is being celebrated near and far<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Rising singing stars Gabrielle Cavassa and Lucia \u2014 the winners, respectively, of the 2021 and 2022 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competitions \u2014 will make their festival debuts. And talented teenage musicians will be featured in The Binational Youth Ensemble, which will perform at the festival concerts in both San Diego and Tijuana.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"xnmGKuRsBK\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiegouniontribune.com\/2025\/06\/13\/san-diego-tijuana-international-jazz-festival-sets-lineup-for-its-second-year\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">San Diego Tijuana International Jazz Festival sets lineup for its second year<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cOur primary goal is to bring great music to the audiences in both cities \u2014 not only from outside the community but from inside \u2014 and to allow people to hear artists they might not otherwise hear,\u201d said Daniel Atkinson, who cofounded the festival last year with Tijuana concert producer and restaurateur Julian Plascencia.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"CxqvoANCb2\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiegouniontribune.com\/2024\/04\/30\/san-diego-tijuana-international-jazz-festival-to-debut-with-seed-money-provided-by-qualcomm-founder-irwin-jacobs\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">San Diego Tijuana International Jazz Festival to debut, with seed money provided by Qualcomm founder Irwin Jacobs<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>That goal is made considerably easier by the fact that the festival\u2019s opening concert Thursday at the open-air venue Quartyard in downtown San Diego and closing concert next Sunday on the streets of downtown Tijuana are free to attend.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, while Saturday\u2019s star-packed concert inside the California Center for the Arts, Escondido, is a paid-ticket affair, those ticketed performances will be complemented by free outdoor performances in the center\u2019s spacious courtyard.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe take a lot of inspiration from the free annual jazz festivals in cities like Detroit, Chicago and Atlanta,\u201d Atkinson said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, we\u2019re very happy to add an outdoor stage in Escondido with a couple of bands that anyone can come and see at no cost.
