Next time you\u2019re headed out of town via DFW Airport, don\u2019t drive. Instead, hop on the train<\/a> downtown for a chance to marvel at the award-winning renovation of the Texas & Pacific Station.<\/p>\n

Fort Worth has been internationally recognized for restoring the train station to the brilliant gateway to downtown it once was. The station is situated along Lancaster Avenue<\/a> just beside Fort Worth\u2019s historic post<\/a> office<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The nonprofit Fort Worth Inc. has received the Downtown Achievement Award of Excellence for the $1.75<\/a> million <\/a>T&P Passage project<\/a> from the International Downtown Association, which is meeting Sept. 24-27 in Washington.<\/p>\n

The Washington-based nonprofit says it is made up of \u201ccity builders and downtown champions who bring urban centers to life.\u201d<\/p>\n

The T&P project, completed in December, specifically focused on the passage<\/a> between downtown and the TEXRail and TRE platforms at the southern terminal of Texas & Pacific Station. It enhanced accessibility for commuters and visitors alike by adding clear signs and an illuminated plaza and walkway.<\/p>\n

With murals and historical displays, the renovations highlight Fort Worth\u2019s heritage.<\/p>\n

Andy Taft, president of Downtown Fort Worth Inc., said the goal of the project was to give guests a remarkable first and last impression of the city.<\/p>\n

As a result of earning the award, the Texas & Pacific passage will be one of about a dozen urban projects displayed in the National Building Museum in Washington. The exhibition entitled \u201cComing Together: Reimaging America\u2019s Downtowns\u201d explores the lessons learned and opportunities embraced following the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n
