The goal of the review is for every coffeehouse to deliver a \u201cwarm and welcoming space,\u201d according to a public statement from Starbucks chairman and CEO Brian Niccol.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring the review, we identified coffeehouses where we\u2019re unable to create the physical environment our customers and partners expect, or where we don\u2019t see a path to financial performance, and these locations will be closed,\u201d Niccol said in the announcement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1ZEArLPiGOXJA2JLG2TJy0dJ7dfmHSBu9sG58pAHpDQU\/edit?gid=605441901#gid=605441901\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">public Google document<\/a> was released listing the closings. The NYC Starbucks locations to close immediately are listed below. Starbucks notified those employees of the cuts on Friday, the company said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will offer generous severance and support packages, including benefits extensions,\u201d Niccol said.\n<\/p>\n<p>Some coffeehouse workers might be transferred to other locations.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re working hard to offer transfers to nearby locations where possible and will move quickly to help partners understand what opportunities might be available to them,\u201d Niccol said. \u201cFor those we can\u2019t immediately place, we\u2019re focused on partner care, including comprehensive severance packages.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, NYC coffee drinkers shared their thoughts about the closures on social media. Many people said they would not miss their local Starbucks. One commenter said the coffee was \u201coverpriced and overrated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another person said the company \u201cbuilt a brand, and then destroyed it.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>John, a native New Yorker from Manhattan, was \u201cvery sad\u201d to hear that hundreds of workers would lose their jobs as a result of the closures.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s very sad. It\u2019s a lot of people,\u201d he said.\n<\/p>\n<p>Coffee drinker Karin said she was surprised that her local Upper West Side location was closing because it was often crowded.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m shocked it\u2019s not staying,\u201d she said. \u201cI liked the brown sugar shaken coffee, my dog liked the pup cup. How will I explain to her no more pup cups?\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>The closure sweep comes after Starbucks shut its iconic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amny.com\/news\/iconic-starbucks-in-nyc-closes-after-30-years\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Astor Place location<\/a> last year. The Greenwich Village shop poured its last cup of coffee on July 29, 2024.
