{"id":262593,"date":"2025-09-29T01:12:18","date_gmt":"2025-09-29T01:12:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/262593\/"},"modified":"2025-09-29T01:12:18","modified_gmt":"2025-09-29T01:12:18","slug":"philadelphia-cheesemonger-becomes-first-american-to-win-first-place-in-world-cheese-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/262593\/","title":{"rendered":"Philadelphia cheesemonger becomes first American to win first place in world cheese competition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For the first time in history, an American has won one of the biggest competitions in the world for cheese.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/emdalbero\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Emilia D&#8217;Albero<\/a> took home first place and a gold medal at what is known as the Cheesemonger Olympics in France.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My teammate, Courtney Johnson, and I are the first all-female team USA,&#8221; D&#8217;Albero said. &#8220;They had never sent two girls before.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The two are cheesemongers and sell and help connect customers with cheese and other dairy products. D&#8217;Albero lives in Philadelphia while Johnson is based in Seattle.<\/p>\n<p>Both competed in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cheese-tours.com\/concours-fromager.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Mondial du Fromage<\/a>, where some of the top cheesemongers from around the world come together to go head-to-head.<\/p>\n<p>      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/emilia-3.png#.png\" alt=\"emilia-3.png \" height=\"665\" width=\"620\"  loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>                Emilia D&#8217;Albero<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have a written test, blind tasting, perfect cut, a cheese sculpture and then finally a 100-centimeter square plateau centered around a theme,&#8221; D&#8217;Albero said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a total of nine challenges that she practiced for at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.phillycheeseschool.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Philly Cheese School<\/a> in South Philadelphia.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I did the whole competition with two knives and a wire cutter,&#8221; D&#8217;Albero said.<\/p>\n<p>Her career in cheese started 8 years ago and really took off after starting her popular TikTok account called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@punkrockparmigiano\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Punk Rock Parmigiano.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Through her work and content, she hopes to educate others about the importance of cheesemongers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In other parts of the world, like Europe, being a cheesemonger is seen as a really respected career,&#8221; D&#8217;Albero said. &#8220;In America it&#8217;s not as respected as it should be. It&#8217;s definitely skilled labor. We have to have an encyclopedic knowledge of the cheeses in the case.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/photo-mar-29-2024-7-34-28-pm-2.jpg#.jpeg\" alt=\"photo-mar-29-2024-7-34-28-pm-2.jpg \" height=\"775\" width=\"620\"  loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>                Emilia D&#8217;Albero<\/p>\n<p>That knowledge is what has had led her to taking home a fairly heavy gold medal and its weight isn&#8217;t lost on her.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It definitely made me feel a sort of responsibility to portray American cheesemongers as well as I could,&#8221; D&#8217;Albero said. &#8220;To say, &#8216;Hey, we&#8217;re breaking these boundaries.
