Thunderstorms battered the Phoenix area with rain, hail, flooding and flight delays on Friday.<\/p>\n
The NWS issued a series of severe thunderstorm warnings and flash flood warnings as storm activity intensified across the region throughout the day.<\/p>\n
The thunderstorms prompted the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to ground flights to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on multiple occasions.<\/p>\n
Rain and thunderstorms batter Phoenix and Scottsdale for 2nd straight day<\/a><\/p>\n Heavy rain carried over into Saturday with areas of Scottsdale, Phoenix and Paradise Valley seeing nearly an inch of rain in under an hour.<\/p>\n The National Weather Service issued a\u00a0Severe Thunderstorm Warning<\/a>\u00a0in the area during the 6 p.m. hour on Saturday and\u00a0Flash Flood Warnings<\/a> were in effect until 10 p.m.<\/p>\n The warnings extended north\u00a0into Cave Creek<\/a>\u00a0and south to the\u00a0town of Maricopa<\/a>\u00a0as well.<\/p>\n State of emergency declared in Globe, residents asked to shelter in place after severe flooding<\/a><\/p>\n The Globe City Council declared a state of emergency on Saturday afternoon and residents were asked to shelter in place following severe flooding on Friday.<\/p>\n Globe Mayor Al Gameros said in social media post around midnight that he would be declaring a state of emergency. Around the same time, The Gila County Public Health and Community Services\u00a0asked residents<\/a>\u00a0to shelter in place.<\/p>\n The Globe City Council then held an\u00a0emergency council meeting<\/a>\u00a0at noon on Saturday to formally declare a state of emergency.<\/p>\n Body of 38-year-old man found near submerged vehicle in Scottsdale<\/a><\/p>\n An investigation is underway after the body of a 38-year-old man was found near his submerged vehicle in Scottsdale on Saturday morning, authorities said.<\/p>\n Ander J. Pallares Polanco\u2019s body was found by the Scottsdale Police and Fire Department after flood waters receded following\u00a0Friday\u2019s heavy storm activity<\/a>.<\/p>\n According to the Department of Public Safety and Scottsdale police, Polanco\u2019s family last heard from him around 6:15 p.m. on Friday while he was delivering food.<\/p>\n \u2018Jerry\u2019s Law\u2019 to address animal cruelty in Arizona goes into effect<\/a><\/p>\n The Arizona animal cruelty legislation SB1658, better known as \u201cJerry\u2019s Law<\/a>,\u201d officially went into effect on Friday, as was announced by a major Valley animal rescue.<\/p>\n Arizona Humane Society celebrated the law\u2019s ceremonial signing by Gov.
