HOUSTON<\/strong> \u2013 Peace of mind is the goal in light of the recent church shooting in Michigan,<\/a> prompting local law enforcement to step up security efforts at places of worship across the Houston area.<\/p>\n

Deputies with Constable Mark Herman\u2019s<\/a> Office will have extra patrols at local churches throughout Precinct 4<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur mission is clear: to ensure that every resident can gather, worship, and find peace in their faith and community without fear,\u201d Herman said. <\/p>\n

Just last year, there was a shooting at megachurch Lakewood Church<\/a> in Southwest Houston. <\/p>\n

Genesse Moreno<\/a> walked in carrying two guns with her 7-year-old son on a busy Sunday morning before opening fire. <\/p>\n

Her son was shot, as was another man, but both survived. Off-duty police officers, meanwhile, shot and killed Moreno. <\/p>\n

Investigators say she acted alone and had a history of mental issues. It was a tragedy that hit so many people who go to church and who want to feel safe.<\/p>\n
