Some of his takes get public support, while some stir controversy. The former Busch Series runner-up recently shared another controversial opinion, though it was delivered in a lighthearted manner.

Wallace said he preferred Joey Logano over a former Cup Series winner, citing a reason that has nothing to do with racing.

Kenny Wallace Raises Eyebrows With Unexpected Take on Joey Logano

Who is the most unpopular Cup Series winner of all time? Logano would be a popular pick to answer that question.

The Middletown, Connecticut-native used to be a popular driver in his early Team Penske days, but the narrative changed after his 2015 feud with Matt Kenseth.

During a heated battle for the win at Kansas in 2015, Logano spun Kenseth, which deprived the latter of a crucial win. After suffering a crucial blow to his title ambitions, Kenseth went for revenge two races later and intentionally took out Logano at Martinsville.

Even though Kenseth was handed a two-race suspension for the incident, most fans blamed Logano for starting the altercation in the first place.

He was also heavily criticized after winning the 2024 Cup Series championship. Many felt his lacklustre regular-season performance didn’t merit a playoff spot, yet the “win and you’re in” rule gave him a chance to fight for the title with just one regular-season victory.

Logano often gets booed on the course, and he addressed the issue earlier this season.

“I wish I knew. I mean I guess some of it is probably how I started my career. I made some mistakes in the way I handled things. I think some of that has carried over for a long time,” he said.

“Outside of that, I don’t know. I don’t put on a façade, like this is me, right? And I think it’s confusing to people who see me smile and laugh and then race hard,” he continued.

Speaking of “unworthy champions”, Kenseth sparked a similar debate when he won the 2003 Cup Series. The tournament was decided over season-long points then. Kenseth outscored the rest of the field, despite winning just one race throughout the campaign.

The ex-Roush Racing driver’s win prompted NASCAR to ditch the championship format and start the playoffs, which received mixed feedback from the community.

Although NASCAR felt Kenseth’s win made the competition dull, he remains popular with many fans. On the surface, the 53-year-old seems more well-liked than Logano.

Wallace, however, revealed that he prefers Logano over Kenseth because of the Penske driver’s more engaging and outspoken personality.

Joey Logano.
Because he speaks 😂 https://t.co/66ou38X3lu

— Kenny Wallace (@Kenny_Wallace) September 29, 2025

“Serious question @Kenny_Wallace , whose a better champion, 2003 Matt Kenseth or 2024 Joey Logano? What if Joey wins this year’s championship with only one win?” a fan asked Wallace on X.

Wallace replied, “Joey Logano. Because he speaks (face with tears of joy emoji)”.

Kenseth wasn’t the best with words, while Logano has a knack for expressing himself. He may not win everyone over, but he gets his point across, even if it sometimes gets him into trouble.

But that’s what makes NASCAR great: it has its silent warriors and its vocal ones, its heroes and its villains.

Kenny Wallace is not shy about speaking his mind on social media.
