Kate Hudson<\/a> was almost famous under different circumstances. <\/p>\n

The actress, 46, recently revealed that as a teen, she was told to get emancipated from her parents,\u00a0Goldie Hawn\u00a0and Bill Hudson<\/a>, in order to land more work in Hollywood.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had gotten this part that they wanted me to basically divorce my parents so that I could work as an adult,\u201d Hudson said while on\u00a0the \u201cAwards Chatter\u201d<\/a> podcast at the Newport Beach TV Fest earlier this month.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy mom was like, \u2018No \u2013 never happening,’\u201d she confessed. \u201cBut then I got the\u00a0\u2018Party of Five\u2019\u00a0and it was so great.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Fox drama debuted in 1994 and followed the lives of the five Salinger siblings after their parents died in a car crash. <\/p>\n

The series starred Matthew Fox as the eldest sibling and guardian, Charlie Salinger, Scott Wolf as Bailey Salinger, Neve Campbell as Julia Salinger, Lacey Chabert as Claudia Salinger and Jacob Smith as Owen Salinger.<\/p>\n

Hudson guest-starred on Season 2 episode 21, titled \u201cSpring Breaks: Part 1\u201d in 1996.<\/p>\n

She played\u00a0Cory, a co-worker of Michael Goorjian\u2019s character Justin Thompson. Thompson was Julia\u2019s love interest at the beginning of the show.<\/p>\n

\u201cParty of Five\u201d marked Hudson\u2019s first role on a television series, and she recalled Goorjian, 54, being \u201cso sweet\u201d and \u201cso kind\u201d on set.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was like two days of shooting,\u201d she explained, \u201cand I missed two days of school and my mom actually allowed me to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI was 16 and obsessed with\u00a0\u2018Party of Five,\u2019 so walking onto that set was like, I couldn\u2019t believe that I was going to have a guest role on it, a day player role,\u201d Hudson gushed. \u201cI was like, oh. It was so fun.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

While on the live podcast episode, the \u201cRunning Point\u201d star also touched on\u00a0why she turned down an acting job at the age of 16.<\/a><\/p>\n

At the time, Hudson had begun seriously auditioning for roles and\u00a0her stepdad, Kurt Russell,<\/a>\u00a0suggested she try out for the part of a young girl in his 1996 movie\u00a0\u201cEscape from L.A.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI went in and auditioned and got that part, and I sort of realized, \u2018Oh, this is when you start to make choices that will define your career,\u2019\u201d the singer recounted. \u201cAnd, \u2018Do I want to be defined by being Kurt\u2019s daughter who got this part? No.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201c[It doesn\u2019t] matter if I got it because I was good enough,\u201d continued Hudson, \u201cit would never be what people would ever think. And I knew that and was like, \u2018No, I can\u2019t.\u2019 So I ended up saying no to that, too.\u201d<\/p>\n

After working on \u201cParty of Five,\u201d the \u201cGlass Onion\u201d alum, played Larraine Cahill on Season 1 episode 9 of \u201cEZ Streets,\u201d titled: Neither Have I Wings to Fly\u201d in 1997.<\/p>\n

Then, in 2000, Hudson rose to fame as Penny lane in\u00a0\u201cAlmost Famous.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

Which was inevitable, as the Hollywood vet always knew she wanted to be an actress.<\/p>\n

Hudson also recalled visiting Russell, 74, on location as a young child, which spurred her love of acting.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy dad\u2019s sets were the fun sets,\u201d she elaborated. \u201cIt was like\u00a0\u2018Big Trouble in Little China\u2019 and we had slides that would go down into rubber fish, and these amazing costumes.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd the thing is, when you grow up on a movie set, it\u2019s not that fun,\u201d Hudson confessed. \u201c[There] is a lot of waiting around, so you realize you really love it when you don\u2019t want to get off the movie set.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hawn, 79, first started dating Russell in 1983, and the \u201cBride Wars\u201d actress shared that in order to be on set with either of her parents, she had to take a job on the film.<\/p>\n

\u201cPerforming was always something I knew I was going to do,\u201d Hudson noted. \u201cThere was never a question, but really falling in love with the circus was something that I don\u2019t think all kids actually have when they\u2019re on a set.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Kate Hudson was almost famous under different circumstances.
