LAWRENCE, Kan. (KCTV) – The Kansas football program is on an upward trajectory under current head coach Lance Leipold, but there is an issue the team needs to solve. Dating back to last season, the Kansas Jayhawks are 1-6 in one-score games \u2013 including Saturday\u2019s 37-34 loss to Cincinnati at home. <\/p>\n
While the margins of winning Big 12 conference games are razor-thin, Leipold says his team needs to practice better to start to win some one-possession games.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve got to get to great practice habits and a sense of urgency about doing our job the way it should be,\u201d Leipold told the media on Monday. \u201cThere is not a magic potion to this. It\u2019s not something that we haven\u2019t been able to do. We\u2019ve got to be able to have consistency Monday through Friday and be excited for kickoff on Saturday.\u201d <\/p>\n
This Saturday, KU travels to Orlando, where they will take on 3-1 UCF. The Knights are coming off a 34-20 road loss at Kansas State, but the Jayhawks know they need to be locked in at practice this week in order to leave the Sunshine State with a win. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve got to have better practice habits this week,\u201d Leipold said. \u201cWe just have to make sure that the attention to detail and sense of urgency of going about that kind of helps those things and lets guys play a little bit more confidently.\u201d <\/p>\n
Saturday\u2019s game at UCF is scheduled for a 6:30 kickoff on ESPN2. Oddsmakers say the Jayhawks are 3.5-point road favorites in Orlando. <\/p>\n
