{"id":265303,"date":"2025-09-30T01:50:17","date_gmt":"2025-09-30T01:50:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/265303\/"},"modified":"2025-09-30T01:50:17","modified_gmt":"2025-09-30T01:50:17","slug":"mobility-challenges-arise-at-southside-senior-living-facility-after-elevators-stop-working","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/265303\/","title":{"rendered":"Mobility challenges arise at Southside senior living facility after elevators stop working"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><strong>JACKSONVILLE, Fla.<\/strong> \u2013 Residents of a 17-story senior living facility on Jacksonville\u2019s Southside are facing mobility challenges after the building\u2019s elevators stopped working.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">After receiving several complaints from residents and families, who said residents of Mount Carmel Gardens were \u201ctrapped inside with no way to get out,\u201d News4JAX reached out to the property management company and the city to learn if anything is being done to address the elevator outages. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 kNAFkD cuqaEv article-text\">In a statement, <a href=\"https:\/\/spm.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/spm.net\/\">the property management company SPM, Inc.<\/a> said both elevators have been out of service since Thursday \u201cdue to water intrusion that damaged electrical control systems.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The management team said they have ordered the replacement parts and are working to expedite the process with the manufacturer.<\/p>\n<p>Mount Carmel Gardens is a 17-story senior living facility. News4JAX was recently informed that residents have been facing mobility issues after two elevators in the building stopped working. (Copyright 2025 by WJXT News4JAX &#8211; All rights reserved.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Additionally, the City of Jacksonville shared a statement that read:<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cA citizen alerted the City of Jacksonville to this issue, and the Code Enforcement Division sent an officer to investigate. A citation was issued for the elevator not working for more than 24 hours. They continue to monitor to ensure that the property owner completes the necessary maintenance work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 kNAFkD cuqaEv article-text\">The management team said it is providing the following resources to help residents during the elevator outage,<b> <\/b>saying:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p>All residents have been personally contacted to assess their immediate needs<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p>We are providing food delivery, package delivery, and mobility assistance to all residents who need help<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p>Meals are being delivered to residents<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p>Safety inspections have confirmed all common areas remain secure<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p>Emergency protocols are in place for residents requiring urgent assistance<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The company\u2019s full response can be read below.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><b>SPM Response:<\/b><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 bqJyUE iQviKm block-quote\">\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 ewwUYq\">The Management Team has mobilized all available resources to support our residents during this temporary disruption. Our experienced team always prioritizes resident safety and comfort, and we are committed to transparent communication with residents and city officials throughout the repair process.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 ewwUYq\">We have maintained constant communication with residents through personal phone calls, written notices, and door-to-door check-ins.
