Residents across the city continue reaching out to 2 Helps You, saying they aren\u2019t getting their trash picked up and aren\u2019t seeing relief. The City says it\u2019s working on it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">In neighborhoods like Melrose Park, residents say heavy trash has been sitting curbside for months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cIt\u2019s horrible looking,\u201d one resident said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cThis has been the pits,\u201d added another.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Neighbors told KPRC 2 their trash has been left out for nearly two to three months despite repeated calls to 311 and 411.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cAll the trash piling up, and then we\u2019re a flood district as well,\u201d said Luci Ramos, a Melrose Park resident. \u201cIt just goes all over the street with just a little bit of rain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Ramos explained, \u201cThey\u2019re putting us on the back burner, basically. They don\u2019t have to live here, so it just feels like they don\u2019t care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The new director of Houston\u2019s Solid Waste Department declined our interview request, but the department responded to our questions in writing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">City officials admit the biggest challenge is the city\u2019s aging fleet of garbage trucks. While nine trucks have been added recently, frequent breakdowns continue to slow service.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\"\/><\/ul>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">To fix the problem, 31 new trucks have been ordered. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in late October, with the full order expected online by early November.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">On staffing, a recent job fair drew more than 70 applicants. Solid Waste says new drivers will be on the streets in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The department also points to changes under new leadership, including a \u201cCan Blitz Initiative\u201d aimed at getting replacement containers to residents faster and reducing the backlog of heavy trash pickups.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Illegal dumping remains another challenge, diverting crews and equipment away from regular neighborhood collection.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 kNAFkD cuqaEv article-text\"><b>Where you can take heavy trash and recycling: <\/b>Houston has six neighborhood depository and recycling centers.
