LeBron James is heading into uncharted waters. Not only is he about to start his 23rd season, which will set a new NBA record, but for the first time, he will not be the best or most important player on his team. That title now belongs to the 26-year-old Luka Doncic.<\/p>\n

As a result, James will have to play off the ball more often, as Doncic has become the Los Angeles Lakers<\/a>‘ head honcho on offense. At media day on Monday, the 40-year-old joked about how he picked up golf this offseason, but he also said he worked on catch-and-shoot 3-pointers, presumably in anticipation of playing off the ball more than ever.<\/p>\n

One of the keys to James’ unprecedented longevity has been the recent improvement in his 3-point shooting. In his first 20 seasons, he shot a mediocre 34.5% from 3-point range, but last season, he made 37.6% of his attempts from that distance, and the season before that, he was at 41%.<\/p>\n

As his athleticism continues to wane, having the ability to consistently hit treys, whether they’re the catch-and-shoot variety or contested treys off the dribble, will be critical to his attempts to remain a superstar-level player.<\/p>\n
