{"id":265706,"date":"2025-09-30T05:30:13","date_gmt":"2025-09-30T05:30:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/265706\/"},"modified":"2025-09-30T05:30:13","modified_gmt":"2025-09-30T05:30:13","slug":"european-markets-on-tues-sept-30-stoxx-600-ftse-dax-cac","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/265706\/","title":{"rendered":"European markets on Tues Sept 30; Stoxx 600, FTSE, DAX, CAC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A specialist trader works on the floor at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in New York City, U.S., Sept. 15, 2025.  <\/p>\n<p>Brendan McDermid | Reuters<\/p>\n<p>LONDON \u2014 European stocks are expected to open in mixed territory on Tuesday as investors keep an eye on U.S. President Donald Trump&#8217;s trade tariffs and more political deadlock in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>The U.K.&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.FTSE\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FTSE<\/a> and France&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.FCHI\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CAC 40<\/a> indexes are expected to open a touch lower on Tuesday morning, while Germany&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.GDAXI\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DAX<\/a> is expected to open up 0.4%, and Italy&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.FTMIB\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FTSE MIB<\/a> 0.13% higher, according to data from IG.<\/p>\n<p>European markets will be keeping an eye on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/09\/30\/trump-sets-10percent-tariff-on-lumber-imports-higher-rates-on-wooden-products.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the tariff landscape this week<\/a> after Trump said Monday that\u00a0he would impose a 10% tariff on imported timber and\u00a0lumber\u00a0and an initial 25% duty on imported kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities and upholstered furniture, before the tariff rate rises next year. \u00a0Trump said such imports were threatening the U.S. economy and eroding national security.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A potential federal government shutdown will also be closely followed by global markets this week after top Democrats and Republicans met with Trump at the White House on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>After the meeting, Vice President JD Vance\u00a0said,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/09\/29\/trump-meeting-democrats-government-shutdown.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> &#8220;I think we&#8217;re headed to a shutdown <\/a>because the Democrats won&#8217;t do the right thing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Although shutdowns aren&#8217;t usually market-moving events,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/09\/29\/government-shutdowns-usually-have-little-economic-impact-this-time-could-be-different.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this time could be different<\/a>\u00a0as investors are already wary about a slowing labor market, the risk of stagflation and elevated stock valuations.<\/p>\n<p>A shutdown could also\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/09\/29\/a-possible-risk-to-markets-from-a-shutdown-getting-chatter-on-trading-floors.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">prompt rating agencies<\/a>\u00a0to rethink the status of U.S. credit, which was downgraded in May by Moody&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>In other news, the U.K.&#8217;s Labour Party continues its annual conference in Liverpool on Tuesday with Prime Minister Keir Starmer set to address delegates later today.
