Dogs and cats at the Jacksonville Humane Society<\/a> were recently serenaded by eight cello and two violin performers.<\/p>\n

For the third year, local music teacher Sabrina Calandro and a group of her adult and youth students performed for the shelter pets<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Music has the ability to inspire, comfort and bring joy to the performer and the audience,” she said.<\/p>\n

Classical music<\/a> can reduce stress in animals, according to the society, and the “cello can be especially calming, as its range and tones are similar to the human voice.”<\/p>\n

One of the youth performers<\/a>, Julie Mallow, said, “I feel bad that I can\u2019t adopt them all, but this is one way I can help them. It\u2019s so nice seeing them all enjoy the music and fall asleep.”<\/p>\n

“This partnership \u2026 allows us to provide meaningful enrichment for our animals while also engaging the community,” society CEO Lawrence Nicolas said.<\/p>\n
