\n\tConan O\u2019Brien stopped by \u201cThe Late Show\u201d on Monday night to remind Stephen Colbert<\/a> of some sage advice he offered before stepping away from the world of late-night four years ago. Colbert is about to become a late-night vet himself after CBS decided to end \u201cThe Late Show\u201d in May 2026. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cJust as I was leaving my late-night show, I took you and all the other late-night hosts out,\u201d O\u2019Brien began. \u201cRemember this? I took you to a wonderful Sizzler restaurant, and we all had our trays and I told you guys, \u2018Take care of late night. If you take care of late night, late night will take care of you.\u2019 I said, \u2018Don\u2019t do anything to ruffle any feathers.\u2019 Remember? I said that. And I said, \u2018Whatever you do, don\u2019t speak truth to power.\u2019 I said, \u2018Cowardice is the way.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tO\u2019Brien joked that in his 28 years of being a late-night host, he \u201cnever read the news. I had a masturbating bear and a plastic dog. I didn\u2019t even know who was president!\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tAs the crowd howled with laughter, Colbert deadpanned, \u201cThanks for being here, Conan.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tOn a more serious note, O\u2019Brien told Colbert: \u201cI, of course, adore you. I love you. I know you as a person and also a comedic force and, like a lot of people, I\u2019m very sad that this chapter is ending.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe added, \u201cBut I also want to say that you are going to do amazing things, you\u2019re going to have a lot of fun. And the connection you have \u2014 and this isn\u2019t just you, it\u2019s Mr. Kimmel and Fallon, all these guys have \u2014 it\u2019s very special. The connection you have with the audience, you\u2019re taking with you. No one else owns that. That\u2019s yours for the rest of your life.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLate-night television is in the midst of a reckoning after Colbert\u2019s \u201cLate Show\u201d was canceled and \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live\u201d was taken off the air following the host\u2019s comments about the assassination of Charlie Kirk. After Kimmel\u2019s suspension was lifted last week, Colbert celebrated during his show, saying: \u201cOur long national late nightmare is over \u2026 Come on! Wonderful news for my dear friend Jimmy and his amazing staff.\u201d<\/p>\n
