(WKBT) — Roughly 150 people gathered at the Riverside Park bandshell Monday evening for an hour-long vigil to honor and celebrate the life of Charlie Kirk.

The event featured prayer, worship and a candlelight service as attendees came together to remember Kirk and support his family.

Jordan Swift, who organized the vigil, emphasized unity during the difficult time.

“The whole point of this event is unity. I want anyone and everyone to come here, whether they have the same opinions as I do or not. This is about bringing people together and, ultimately, with my faith, glorifying God in the best way that I know how. I absolutely do not think that political violence has a place anywhere,” Swift said.

The vigil ran from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., with organizers providing candles for the service.

COPYRIGHT 2025 BY NEWS 8 NOW/NEWS 8000.
