The season hasn\u2019t even begun for Maryland men\u2019s basketball, and the program is already dealing with its first loss.<\/p>\n
Sophomore guard Rakease Passmore tore his Achilles tendon in the preseason and will miss the entire season, the team announced Tuesday afternoon.<\/a><\/p>\n The 6-foot-5, 185-pound native of Palatka, Florida, had committed to the Terps in May after spending his freshman year at Kansas. Although he played just 5.1 minutes per game in 21 appearances for the Jayhawks, he was a top-50 recruit coming out of high school in North Carolina.<\/p>\n Passmore\u2019s injury removes one option in a newly configured backcourt for new coach Buzz Williams, who had to restock the roster<\/a> after Kevin Willard left for Villanova<\/a> and many players with remaining eligibility transferred elsewhere.<\/p>\n But Passmore\u2019s absence opens the door for guards like junior Isaiah Watts (Washington State), redshirt freshman Andre Mills (Texas A&M) and true freshmen Darius Adams, Guillermo Del Pino and Nick Blake to join projected starters Myles Rice (Indiana) and David Coit (Kansas) in the backcourt.<\/p>\n Have a news tip?
