The roughly $200M, 30-acre practice facility and team HQ is expected to open in 2028.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-facilities \">Designed by Rossetti, the facility funded by the Cardinals will contain a fieldhouse-enclosed turf field, three outdoor natural grass fields and a practice facility building that also will house the team\u2019s business operations. The team\u2019s north Phoenix base will measure roughly 250,000 square feet, compared to the current facility\u2019s 156,000. The Cardinals have practiced in Tempe since moving to the region 37 years ago from St. Louis, but the team\u2019s practice accommodations <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/02\/26\/dolphins-vikings-top-nflpa-workplace-survey-but-falcons-chargers-and-commanders-make-big-gains\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/02\/26\/dolphins-vikings-top-nflpa-workplace-survey-but-falcons-chargers-and-commanders-make-big-gains\/\">received poor grades<\/a> in the NFLPA\u2019s 2024 workplace survey. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-facilities \">\u201cIt\u2019s been great but we\u2019re landlocked,\u201d Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill said. \u201cWe only have 14 acres and for everything that we need for a modern, state-of-the-art facility for our players, we need much more space.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-facilities \">The practice facility\u2019s 30 acres will sit within a larger 217-acre development that the Cardinals plan to develop through an affiliated real estate company in the mode of what the Cowboys built at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Journal\/Issues\/2019\/09\/02\/Teams-and-League\/Training-facilities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Journal\/Issues\/2019\/09\/02\/Teams-and-League\/Training-facilities\/\">The Star<\/a> and the Vikings at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Daily\/Issues\/2018\/03\/12\/Facilities\/Vikings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Daily\/Issues\/2018\/03\/12\/Facilities\/Vikings\/\">Viking Lakes<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-facilities \">After the Arizona Coyotes\u2019 brief efforts to acquire 100-plus acres of undeveloped land in north Phoenix for a new arena <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2024\/06\/23\/arizona-coyotes-land-auction\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2024\/06\/23\/arizona-coyotes-land-auction\/\">fell through<\/a> in the summer of 2024, the Cardinals quietly pounced on the opportunity, scooping up more than double what the Coyotes were trying to buy, including the site the hockey team coveted before it was abruptly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2024\/04\/18\/nhl-sending-coyotes-to-salt-lake-city\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2024\/04\/18\/nhl-sending-coyotes-to-salt-lake-city\/\">sold to Smith Entertainment Group<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2024\/09\/30\/nhl-preview-utah-hockey-club\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2024\/09\/30\/nhl-preview-utah-hockey-club\/\">moved to Utah<\/a>. Mortenson served as the Cardinals\u2019 land agent, acquiring the patch for $136M this past June through an Arizona State Land Department auction.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-facilities \">The site sits at the intersection of 101 \u2014 Phoenix\u2019s regional highway belt \u2014 and Scottsdale Road, a desirable area of undeveloped land surrounded by golf courses (TPC Scottsdale, home of the WM Phoenix Open, is nearby), desert resorts and high-income neighborhoods. Though some of the development, including early infrastructure work of the most basic nature (water, sewer, electric), will be completed by the Cardinals-affiliated development company, Bidwill said the team is considering working with a real estate development partner on the future of the broader site. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-facilities \">\u201cThis state land is in just an incredible location, but I know in talking to many of the leaders around the state they look at that as an excellent location for us to continue to recruit headquarter companies to locate there,\u201d Bidwill said. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/SXX7O5LZINAVXCWJCDFEYI2TFE.png\"  width=\"800\" height=\"636\"\/>The Arizona Cardinals have bought more than 200 acres in northern Phoenix and will build a training facility on 30 acres there, with the remainder converted into mixed-use development. Arizona Cardinals&#8217; training facility project shifts gears <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-facilities \">At least 50,000 square feet of the practice facility will be devoted to the Cardinals\u2019 business team, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2024\/01\/18\/arizona-cardinals-new-office-space\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2024\/01\/18\/arizona-cardinals-new-office-space\/\">operates in leased office space separate from the football facility<\/a>. Attracting a health care provider to the new development and into the practice facility\u2019s orbit, a concept proved successful by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Daily\/Issues\/2018\/06\/21\/Technology\/dallas-cowboys-the-star-frisco-sports-medicine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Daily\/Issues\/2018\/06\/21\/Technology\/dallas-cowboys-the-star-frisco-sports-medicine\/\">Cowboys<\/a> and Vikings, is another key target.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-facilities \">\u201cRight now, in Tempe, the closest imaging center is you get in the car and you drive 25 minutes,\u201d Bidwill said. \u201cWe\u2019re hoping to locate a medical center adjacent to us, and that\u2019ll be a two- or three-minute golf cart ride. Make that happen, get the players in and out of imaging and back to the training facility for meetings and rehab.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-facilities \">Design work with Rossetti is being completed this fall. The Cardinals haven\u2019t announced a contractor, but hope to break ground on the project in early 2026.
