{"id":267934,"date":"2025-10-01T01:28:13","date_gmt":"2025-10-01T01:28:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/267934\/"},"modified":"2025-10-01T01:28:13","modified_gmt":"2025-10-01T01:28:13","slug":"nl-wild-card-playoffs-dodgers-vs-reds-live-updates-how-to-watch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/267934\/","title":{"rendered":"NL wild-card playoffs: Dodgers vs. Reds live updates, how to watch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> Will Smith makes the roster but not Michael Conforto for Dodgers\u2019 wild-card series <\/p>\n<p>Despite missing the last three weeks of the season with a fracture in his right hand, catcher <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/dodgers\/story\/2025-08-13\/dodgers-angels-shaikin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Will Smith<\/a> was included on the <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/dodgers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dodgers<\/a>\u2019 roster for their best-of-three wild card series against the Cincinnati Reds this week, the team announced ahead of Game 1 on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Smith was not in the starting lineup for Game 1, with Ben Rortvedt behind the plate for the series opener. And so I\u2019m not closing the door that he\u2019s not going to start tomorrow. But I do feel that the floor of having him available to hit in any big spot, it was certainly worth having him on the roster.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Dodgers also put a third catcher, rookie Dalton Rushing, on the wild-card roster.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt got to a good place where the bone had healed,\u201d Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said of Smith\u2019s hand, which was originally injured in early September when it was hit by a foul ball, but wasn\u2019t diagnosed as a fracture until a couple weeks later. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow it\u2019s about getting strength back,\u201d Friedman added. \u201cOnce you do that, then it\u2019s about throwing. We were able to keep his legs going, but he hasn\u2019t had that throwing volume in a little while. So now we have to continue to kind of progressively layer that on.
