Unless your name is Jason Kidd, job security has been hard to come by for the head coaches of the Dallas area\u2019s professional sports<\/a> teams.<\/p>\n

In the past year, every pro sports team in North Texas except the Dallas Mavericks has made a head coaching change, with the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Wings the most recent additions to that list.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a breakdown of all the head coaching changes in D-FW:<\/p>\n

Dallas Cowboys<\/p>\n

In: <\/b>Brian Schottenheimer<\/p>\n

Out: <\/b>Mike McCarthy<\/p>\n

The Cowboys moved on from former head coach Mike McCarthy<\/a> in January 2025 after his contract expired. Dallas had a 49-35 record in McCarthy\u2019s five seasons, including a a 1-3 playoff record. Dallas then hired Brian Schottenheimer<\/a> to be the team\u2019s 10th head coach on January 24, 2025. Schottenheimer is 1-2-1 in his first four games in charge. <\/p>\n

Texas Rangers<\/p>\n

Out: <\/b>Bruce Bochy<\/p>\n

The Rangers announced Monday that they were parting ways with future Hall of Fame manager Bruce Bochy<\/a> after a three seasons tenure that netted the franchise\u2019s first World Series title.<\/p>\n

Texas hasn\u2019t officially announced a replacement, but 2023 NL Manager of the Year and current Rangers\u2019 senior adviser Skip Schumaker<\/a> is the leading candidate for the position.<\/p>\n

Dallas Stars<\/p>\n

In: <\/b>Glen Gulutzan<\/p>\n

Out: <\/b>Pete DeBoer<\/p>\n

The Stars parted ways with Pete DeBoer<\/a> in June after he led Dallas to three consecutive Western Conference Finals appearances. The decision came in because of controversy about DeBoer\u2019s handling of goaltender Jake Oettinger in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals against the Edmonton Oilers. <\/p>\n

To replace DeBoer, Dallas returned to a familiar face, hiring Glen Gulutzan as head coach<\/a> for the second time. Gulutzan compiled a 64-57-9 record in Dallas between 2011-2013 and had most recently served as an assistant coach for the Oilers.<\/p>\n

Dallas Wings<\/p>\n

Out: <\/b>Chris Koclanes<\/p>\n

The Dallas Wings split with head coach Chris Koclanes<\/a> Tuesday after he spent just one season in charge. The Wings drafted superstar Paige Bueckers with the No. 1 overall pick during his tenure, but went 10-34 under the first-time head coach and former USC and Connecticut Sun assistant.<\/p>\n

A search for his replacement is underway.<\/p>\n

FC Dallas<\/p>\n

In: <\/b>Eric Quill<\/p>\n

Out: <\/b>Nico Est\u00e9vez, Peter Luccin (interim)<\/p>\n

Former manager Nico Est\u00e9vez left FC Dallas in June 2024<\/a> following a 1-1 draw against Minneapolis that left Dallas at second-to-last in MLS. He was replaced by assistant coach Peter Luccin on an interim basis.<\/p>\n

Est\u00e9vez\u2019s permanent replacement arrived in November 2024 when the team hired Eric Quill as its new head coach<\/a>. FC Dallas is currently 10th in MLS tied on 38 points with San Jose and on the verges of a playoff spot in Quill\u2019s first season.<\/p>\n
