HOUSTON<\/strong> \u2013 A young man is lucky to be alive after a major crash Sunday night in Katy<\/a>, and Harris County<\/a> deputies are trying to figure out what led up to it. <\/p>\n

It happened just before 10 p.m. in the outbound lanes of Katy Freeway near South Mason Road. <\/p>\n

Witnesses reported hearing a loud pop and saw an older model truck on the frontage road hit the guardrail in front of the bridge before entering the bayou. <\/p>\n

Responding officers saw an unidentified young man, believed to be a teenager, still inside the car, and were able to extricate him. He was flown to Memorial Hospital, where our cameras saw a CPR machine on him as he was taken into the helicopter. <\/p>\n

We\u2019re told his injuries are serious, but investigators believe he may pull through.<\/p>\n

According to Lt. R. Berry Jr. with the Harris County Sheriff\u2019s Office<\/a>, this was a unique crash. <\/p>\n

\u201cWitnesses stated that he did go airborne, and then he ended up on the far side of the bayou,\u201d he said. \u201cI guess God was with him; as you know, we had a lot of rain, [so] had it been full, but drainage was pretty good on this one.\u201d <\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear what led up to the crash, i.e., if speed or alcohol played a factor, but deputies are continuing their investigation. <\/p>\n
