PHOENIX \u2014 A suspect was arrested this week in connection with a 2010 Phoenix homicide, authorities said.<\/p>\n

On Sept. 5, 2010, around 6 a.m. Walter Zimmer, 69, was found dead at a bus stop near 51st Avenue and Thomas Road<\/a>, according to the Phoenix Police Department. Police said Zimmer had obvious signs of injury.<\/p>\n

On Monday, 35-year-old Edgar Mendoza was brought in and questioned by Phoenix police regarding Zimmer\u2019s death and Mendoza allegedly admitted to the murder.<\/p>\n

How was Mendoza connected to the Phoenix homicide?<\/p>\n

Police said that although detectives at the time of Zimmer\u2019s death were unable to locate witnesses or surveillance video, they did collect physical evidence from the scene.<\/p>\n

There was then a DNA profile developed from that evidence by the Phoenix Crime Lab.<\/p>\n

According to Phoenix police, cold case detectives continued to investigate the homicide and received a match through the Combined DNA Index System<\/a> (CODIS) to Mendoza.<\/p>\n
