The announcement came just after their previous pact expired Sept. 30 at midnight ET.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWe\u2019ve reached a short-term extension to avoid disruption to our service while we work toward a new agreement with NBCUniversal,\u201d a Google spokesperson said. \u201cWe appreciate our subscribers\u2019 patience while we negotiate on their behalf.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tNBCU last week started <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/tv\/news\/nbcuniversal-youtube-tv-blackout-contract-1236529578\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">warning YouTube TV subs they they might lose access to its networks<\/a>. Google has claimed that the media company \u201cis asking us to pay more than what they charge consumers for the same content on Peacock, which would mean less flexibility and higher prices for our subscribers.\u201d If NBCU programming content is \u201cunavailable for an extended period of time,\u201d YouTube TV subscribers will be eligible to receive a $10 credit, Google said in a message on its customer-support site.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAt risk of going dark YouTube TV as a result of the dispute have been <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/nbc\/\" id=\"auto-tag_nbc\" data-tag=\"nbc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NBC<\/a> shows including \u201cSaturday Night Live,\u201d \u201cThe Voice,\u201d \u201cLaw &amp; Order,\u201d \u201cChicago Fire,\u201d \u201cToday\u201d and \u201cThe Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon\u201d as well as NFL and college football and more, plus cable channels like Bravo, MSNBC, CNBC and USA.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tEarlier Tuesday evening, <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/tv\/news\/univision-goes-dark-on-youtube-tv-blackout-televisaunivision-1236535360\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">YouTube TV dropped Univision and other TelevisaUnivision networks<\/a> after the sides were unable to come to terms on a contract renewal. The previous YouTube TV carriage agreement with TelevisaUnivision expired Sept. 30 as well. YouTube TV is offering affected subscribers a $6 credit or refund with the TelevisaUnivision blackout.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe affected NBCU channels include those that are set to be spun off into Versant, the new company that will house its cable TV properties (with the exception of Bravo). The channels are: NBC local stations; MSNBC; USA; Bravo; Golf Channel; CNBC; Oxygen True Crime; E!; Cozi; Syfy; American Crimes; NBC News Now; and Telemundo and Universo. Also affected are regional sports networks NBC Sports Philadelphia, NBC Sports Bay Area, NBC Sports Boston and NBC Sports California.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tYouTube TV had an estimated 9.5 million customers as of the end of 2024, according to research firm MoffettNathanson \u2014 making it the biggest internet-delivered pay TV provider in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tGoogle has been embroiled in YouTube TV distribution deal disputes with other big programmers this year. After contentious deal talks, YouTube TV\u00a0and\u00a0Paramount Global\u00a0(now Paramount Skydance) renewed their\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/tv\/news\/paramount-youtube-tv-reach-distribution-deal-averting-blackout-1236309622\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">agreement to carry CBS\u00a0stations nationwide and more than 20 other channels<\/a>\u00a0in February. And Fox Corp. and YouTube TV reached a renewal in August 2025 after a public back-and-forth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAnd four years ago, Google and NBCU had tangled over YouTube TV: In 2021, <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2021\/digital\/news\/nbcu-youtube-tv-reach-deal-1235079414\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NBCU\u2019s distribution deal for YouTube TV expired<\/a>\u00a0but the companies quickly worked out a long-term pact.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tJustin Connolly, <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/tv\/news\/disney-loses-legal-bid-block-youtube-justin-connolly-hiring-1236418567\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">former head of distribution at Disney<\/a>, joined YouTube as VP, global head of media this spring. Disney sued YouTube and Connolly, alleging breach of contract and seeking to block his employment at Google, but a California state court rejected Disney\u2019s request.
