{"id":269179,"date":"2025-10-01T12:42:12","date_gmt":"2025-10-01T12:42:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/269179\/"},"modified":"2025-10-01T12:42:12","modified_gmt":"2025-10-01T12:42:12","slug":"teen-girl-pedestrian-and-man-in-wheelchair-die-in-jacksonville-crashes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/269179\/","title":{"rendered":"Teen girl pedestrian and man in wheelchair die in Jacksonville crashes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"position:absolute;top:0;left:0;right:0;bottom:0;width:100%;height:100%;z-index:2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/86453333007-arlintonroadpedestrianfatal.png\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"vidplayicon\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gannett-cdn.com\/appservices\/universal-web\/universal\/icons\/icon-play-alt-white.svg\" alt=\"play\" style=\"height:40px;margin:auto 18px auto 27px;width:40px\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Girl killed in hit-and-run on Jacksonville&#8217;s Arlington Road<\/p>\n<p>A teen girl was discovered dead in a culvert of Arlington Road where someone also crashed into a fence and left the scene Tuesday evening, Sept. 30.<\/p>\n<p>First Coast News<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Two pedestrians, a teenage girl and a man in a wheelchair, were killed in separate incidents in Jacksonville.<\/li>\n<li>The teenage girl was the victim of a hit-and-run, and authorities are seeking information from the public.<\/li>\n<li>The man in the wheelchair was struck by two different vehicles, and both drivers remained at the scene.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jacksonville.com\/story\/news\/local\/2024\/05\/30\/death-rate-for-pedestrians-dips-in-jacksonville-but-toll-still-rises\/73898505007\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.jacksonville.com\/story\/news\/local\/2024\/05\/30\/death-rate-for-pedestrians-dips-in-jacksonville-but-toll-still-rises\/73898505007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pedestrians<\/a>, one a teen girl in a hit-and-run and the other a man in a wheelchair, were killed Tuesday night in Jacksonville.<\/p>\n<p>The two deaths increase Duval County&#8217;s traffic fatalities to 125 so far this year and 29th involving a pedestrian, according to the Sheriff&#8217;s Office. That compares to 116 and 30, respectively, at the same time in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The Sheriff&#8217;s Office said the girl was likely struck between 7:15 and 9:15 p.m. Sept. 30 in the 700 block of North Arlington Road near the Arlington Expressway. She was discovered that night in a culvert unresponsive outside a mangled fence. Evidence at the scene suggests she was walking northbound along the east side shoulder of Arlington Road when a vehicle ran over a curb before striking her and destroying a large section of chain-link fence. No one apparently stopped to render aid or call for help.<\/p>\n<p>Detectives gathered evidence at the scene and are working to obtain video surveillance. They are\u00a0asking anyone with information about it to contact the Sheriff\u2019s Office\u00a0at (904) 630-0500 or email JSOCrimeTips@jaxsheriff.org or call <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jacksonville.com\/story\/news\/crime\/2024\/09\/03\/jacksonville-director-at-crime-stoppers-carries-torch-of-predecessor\/74979551007\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.jacksonville.com\/story\/news\/crime\/2024\/09\/03\/jacksonville-director-at-crime-stoppers-carries-torch-of-predecessor\/74979551007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Crime Stoppers<\/a> at (866) 845-TIPS.<\/p>\n<p>The Sheriff&#8217;s Office did not identify the girl or provide a specific age.<\/p>\n<p>In the other crash across town, a man in his late 40s was in the center of Old Gainesville Road in the 10900 block between Normandy Boulevard and Chaffee Road at about 8:10 p.m. when he was struck by a car heading westbound, the Sheriff&#8217;s Office said. The collision threw the man into the eastbound lane where he was immediately struck by a second car.<\/p>\n<p>Rescue personnel transported the victim to a hospital where he was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.
