In fact, del Toro\u2019s film looks to hew much more closely to Mary Shelley\u2019s 1818 novel of the same name.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tTo wit, while <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/05\/guillermo-del-toro-frankenstein-trailer-unveiled-netflix-1236414297\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the film\u2019s teaser trailer<\/a> told the story from Victor Frankenstein\u2019s point of view, this first full trailer is set to voiceover from the monster (Jacob Elordi) himself. He is no longer the grunting brute of Whale\u2019s film, but a literate, deepy-feeling human composite who is struggling to come to grips with his creator (<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/oscar-isaac\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Oscar Isaac<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tWe see scenes of his genesis during a lightning storm; what looks to be a moment of passion (or at least compassion) between the monster and Mia Goth\u2019s Elizabeth Harlander; a set piece in the Arctic, where a ship is stranded \u2014 and where Victor and the monster hunt each other. All are or more or less congruent with Shelley\u2019s masterwork.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tDel Toro has been working on his\u00a0Frankenstein\u00a0passion project for over a decade. At\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/tudum\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tudum<\/a>, he called it \u201cthe culmination of a journey that has occupied most of my life,\u201d adding, \u201cMonsters have become my personal belief system. There are strands of\u00a0Frankenstein\u00a0through my films.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tComing off his third Oscar win for\u00a0Guillermo del Toro\u2019s Pinocchio, another literary adaptation for <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/netflix\/\" id=\"auto-tag_netflix\" data-tag=\"netflix\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Netflix<\/a>, del Toro\u2019s\u00a0Frankenstein\u00a0also features Felix Kammerer (All Quiet on the Western Front), Lars Mikkelsen (The Witcher), David Bradley (Guillermo del Toro\u2019s Pinocchio), Christian Convery (Sweet Tooth),\u00a0Charles Dance (Game of Thrones) and Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tDel Toro directed from his own script and produced alongside longtime collaborator J.
