The department must approve the outside work to ensure there is no conflict of interest and that officers are not overworked and are adequately rested for their LAPD shifts.

“We remain focused on working to keep our neighborhoods safe and won’t be distracted from that mission,” Saggau told CNS in an email. “We are evaluating any potential impacts from this effort on police officers, but we won’t be distracted from efforts to increase and improve recruiting and retention efforts.”

Federal agencies have offered a range of incentives to hire more personnel to aid with immigration enforcement. Saggau noted that the union has seen “zero impacts” to recruiting efforts as federal agencies ramp up their personnel.

“The LAPD provides a much higher pay and benefits package, and the excitement of being part of a long tradition of service that the LAPD is well known for,” Saggau added.

The Los Angeles City Council instructed its legal staff Wednesday to prepare an ordinance prohibiting municipal workers and…

[5123
1582,276,6283,5375,409,2961,26403,224,5337,8066
0":"post-270376","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-los-angeles","8":"tag-ca","9":"tag-california","10":"tag-council","11":"tag-enforcement","12":"tag-immigration","13":"tag-la","14":"tag-looks","15":"tag-los-angeles","16":"tag-losangeles","17":"tag-work
["GET
